It all started with a sunrise.

It was early morning and I had just gotten out of

bed. We were staying in a cabin up in Eagle river with another family of four. I had
woken up early to see the fog forming off of the river, and of course to go on an early
morning kayak ride, by myself of course. As I was strapping on the lifevest and
hoping into the kayak I felt as if a set of eyes were watching from the dock. So, I
hoped up onto the sand and then onto the deck hoping to find my mother, father, or
sister playing a joke on me. However, there was no one there. The boards creaked as
I walked across, and as I touched the sand I shivered. I said, “Hello?” to see if anyone
was around me, like perhaps it was the neighbors watching me. But I got no
response in return. While I hoped back into the kayak, the lake started to choppy,
which was weird because there wasn’t much wind and no one was on the lake yet.
The fog was started to clear off of the lake, and the sun started to become much more
visible. I made my way out past the dock and to the middle of the lake. By now it was
at least 7:30 in the morning and my family would be up by now. I looked at myself in
the lake, and noticed that my shadow had started to form behind me. Making my way
back to the shore, I started to hear my family members calling for me. They were
yelling at me, almost screaming, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. Was
there a bout behind me? I looked, but nothing was there. I pattled faster, and my
heart started racing, and I was hoping nothing would happen to me. As I pulled
closer to the shore, the weeds seemed to be holding me back, “What was here and
why was it trying to get me?” was my first thought. After the long struggle to get
through the weeds, I finally made it back to shore. My family greeted me at the
shore. What they said next made me question everything. They said that they saw
something swimming in the water next to me the entire time. It was a 5 foot long
creature that was blue, had fins, and looked like a giant fish. I was shocked. Was that
what was pulling me back? Throughout the day I couldn’t stop questioning if it was a
fish or another creature that was following me. My sister and my other two friends
went tubing but I was too scared. What if I were to fall in? Would it drag me to the
depths of the lake? Would anyone come looking for me? Finally I faced my fears and
walked to the lake below. As I looked through the water I saw that dead fish were
above my fishing trap, but the scary thing was, they had been bitten out of. I closed
my eyes to make sure I wasn’t day dreaming or hallucinating but when I opened
them, the fish were there and they were exactly the same. I looked back into the lake
and noticed there was something deep within the water. “It’s probably just a large
fish.” I said to myself. However, the creature began to slowly swim up, as I slowly
moved away. I started to run off the dock, but ¾ of the way there, the creature
popped up above the water, and stared at me. It had human legs, red eyes, and gills.
It was light blue and dark green. The creature was also covered it moss, algae, and
seaweed. I stared into its eyes and sprinted back up to the top of the hill. It stood
there. Did no one else see this creature? I ran back inside the house and the creature
disappeared. Later that day, I was explaining what happened with my family. They
didn’t believe me, would anyone ever? They laughed and called me a fraud and a
joker. Years later, I still think of that moment of when I saw the lake monster, and
what I could’ve done to get a picture.
