CHAPTER – 2

INTERNSHIP LEARNING

(LISTING OUT AND EXPLANATION)

On the first day Mrs. Priya (intern guide) introduced herself and to the company and taught me
what I have to do in the upcoming days of the internship shine pack is usually a carton or
corrugated box manufacturing company so she gave me lessons and teaching notes how to
market them in the among various industries out there or a group or an individual who's in the
necessity.
INTRODUCTION TO MARKETING

So, the next day Mrs. Priya gave me a brief explanation about marketing and how to implement
in the field. Marketing explanation according to my learning is Market is the process of
connecting consumers, consumers and the general public with marketers through information
used to identify and describe market opportunities and issues. Setting up, improving and
evaluating marketing activities; Monitoring marketing activities; Better understanding of the
market as a process. Market research identifies the information needed to solve these problems,
develops data collection methods, manages and implements data collection processes, analyses
result and reports their results and impact.

Implications
The dynamic economic conditions are affecting consumer behaviour, their perceptions and
attitudes. Consumers are changing their behaviour in several different ways, situations and
various primary attitudes and values which express these changes. It is vital for us to re-look at
the consumer and bring back our understanding to well alter the marketing strategies.

Not all the consumers react to the environmental changes in the same way. Different consumers
have different reactions to the economic challenges. Reduction may be reflected in different
tangible and psychological ways or modes.

Manufacturers also need to offer a variety of different solutions and propositions to meet these
changes in their behaviour. Therefore, different consumer segments may be affected at different
levels and growth may vary from segment to segment.

Find New Pastures

Growth may be easier to come through geographical expansion, than competitive battle in the
current markets. The impact of the slowdown is more definite in larger cities, though the smaller
towns and villages are also affected if they rely on export-based industries.
Hence, if growth may be challenged in the larger cities, it may be a good time to set forward and
explore new markets in towns, townships and villages. They are the markets, which are growing
at a faster pace and offer greater returns for investments.

UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SALES AND MARKETING

Iam thankful to Mrs. Priya for explaining me the difference between sales and marketing these
two sectors are needed to sell a product or service among the people I'll briefly explain these
topics below

Process
The processes of sales and marketing are slightly different.

 Think of marketing as the precursor for the sales team. With the marketing process, we
establish basic information like who we are, what we offer, and how much it costs. we
establish our brand and showcase what we have to offer our audience, and we explain
how we can solve their problems and the pain points we address.

 In the sales process, we focus on taking the information our audience already has and
trying to provide them with additional information, as well as answer any questions.

Goals
When we look at marketing vs. sales, we will find the goals are slightly different.

 With sales, our focus is on earning conversions. our sales team works on nurturing
prospects towards becoming customers.

 Marketing goals are slightly different. While marketing can focus on sales, its main goal
revolves around promoting your company, product, service, or brand and communicating
its value. Communicating this value does help we earn sales, but we need to establish
brand trust through marketing first.

Strategies

 Sales strategies focus on making direct contact and connections with our prospects. we
use strategies like phone calls, promotional events, and networking to try and engage
prospects to get them to convert. These are known as outbound strategies because we
reach out to prospects.

 Marketing strategies, on the other hand, focus on getting prospects to reach out to us. we
use strategies like paid ads, social media, to get prospects to reach out to us about our
products or services. These are known as inbound marketing strategies because the leads
come to us.

Introduction to the four P’s of marketing

Product
Have the right mix, and provide the right products or services to meet the needs of our
marketplace. Of the four Ps, the product is often the most important. Brands with a solid product
or service can create targeted promotions that generate interest and engage customers.

Place
This refers to the location we do our business in. For a physical location, it would be the street
and the office building we are in. For the Internet, it would be how we have positioned our web
presence. This is how much a customer will pay for the product.
When determining a price, brands consider all of the costs that go into making the product,
including materials, labour and rent. To determine the price of a product, a brand should learn
what customers are willing to pay and also analyse their competition.

Price
No matter how perfect your solutions are to solve the challenges of your target market, if your
prices are either too high or too low, people will not be inclined to buy. When people don’t know
enough about you or your expertise, they may tend to make their buying decision based on price.

Promotion
our promotion strategy refers to all the marketing methods we use and what we say about our
products and services.

As these sections in marketing represents the basement of the marketing infrastructure without
understanding any one of these sections, we can't initiate the marketing process.

INTRODUCTION TO SWOT ANALYSIS

First of all, I learned what is SWOT analysis and how to do swot analysis and I'm giving my
learnings below

A SWOT analysis is a framework used in strategic planning and marketing. It provides you with
the knowledge to create plans to improve your business. SWOT is defined as an acronym for
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It is a critical strategic planning tool used to
isolate an issue, conceptualize a workable solution, and then remove that issue as an ongoing
concern.
Strengths
Strengths describe what an organization excels at and what separates it from the competition: a
strong brand, loyal customer base, a strong balance sheet, unique technology, and so on. For
example, a hedge fund may have developed a proprietary trading strategy that returns market-
beating results. It must then decide how to use those results to attract new investors.
Weaknesses
Weaknesses stop an organization from performing at its optimum level. They are areas where the
business needs to improve to remain competitive: a weak brand, higher-than-average turnover,
high levels of debt, an inadequate supply chain, or lack of capital.
Opportunities
Opportunities refer to favourable external factors that could give an organization a competitive
advantage. For example, if a country cuts tariffs, a car manufacturer can export its cars into a
new market, increasing sales and market share.
Threats
Threats refer to factors that have the potential to harm an organization. For example, a drought is
a threat to a wheat-producing company, as it may destroy or reduce the crop yield. Other
common threats include things like rising costs for materials, increasing competition, and tight
labour supply. and so on.
CHAPTER – 3

INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES

(SKILLS ACQUIRED AND CONCLUSION)

Problem-Solving Skills
No employer wants a worker who constantly hits brick walls in the course of their daily work;
rather, they want somebody who is capable of using their initiative and seeking out their own
solutions. Luckily, being proactive and competent is a lot easier when you have some
experience to back up your intuition, meaning that from day one you won’t be constantly
leaning on the shoulders of your more experienced colleagues.
Getting into the habit of decision making will serve you well further down the line, too. If you
have any ambitions of working your way into a management or leadership position, being able
to work through issues with a degree of self-confidence will certainly earmark you as suitable.

Interaction Skills
Although this can be industry-specific, gaining a general understanding of how organizations
work and operate will make your transition into the workplace a lot easier. In specific terms,
first-hand knowledge of how your chosen industry works can not only give you a clearer
indication of your suitability for it but also a working knowledge that you can impress upon in
your interviews; in broader terms, it can also help you to realize how decisions are made and
by who, and how a company’s culture can have an impact on your own place in it.

Maturity
You might not realize it at the time, but as a student, you are still fairly immature. As
wonderful as higher education is, you are still somewhat restricted to the kind of people you
associate Working in a team where your colleagues vary drastically in terms of age, experience
and knowledge can significantly alter your perceptions and allow you to see things differently;
this accelerated maturity will not only stand you in good stead for future employment but also
greatly benefit your studies. By having a more balanced viewpoint and starting to see the
world outside your own educational bubble, your personal development will advance rapidly.

Teamwork

If you don’t play well with others, then you should probably consider starting your own one-
man business – every single successful company in the world is built upon the core foundation
of teamwork. You need to learn how to work within a group and recognize that the strengths
and weaknesses of individuals are only effective when combined into something greater.

Self-Confidence

It’s long been accepted as a psychological truism that having a job boosts your sense of self-
esteem and self-worth, making you a more confident and well-rounded individual; this is an
essential component of both your personal and your professional growth.

Organization Skills

University teaches organization skills to an extent, but it’s one thing to drop a grade because
you didn’t give yourself enough time to finish a paper and quite another when entire teams of
people across different departments (and external companies) are relying on you to submit a
proposal to a deadline. Even without resorting to such extreme examples, it’s a simple reality
that the world of work is far more rigid than university in terms of time management. From
something as simple as working out how to be on time every single day to learning how to
deal with and priorities the demands of different managers, right through to juggling multiple
tasks and submitting everything on time and to a high standard, work experience teaches it all.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Communication skills are perhaps the first set of skills that potential employers will notice. From
the initial moment you get in touch with them, the employer will be scrutinizing the way you
behave.

Be it the way you talk over the phone, the way you give them information on email, your resume
and cover letter, or the way you carry yourself during the interview, they will be assessing
whether you have polished communication skills.

Make sure that you proof read any form of written communication you send them, and take your
time to listen to what they ask you (or read their instructions carefully), and answer in well-
thought out, grammatically correct sentences. The way you communicate your thoughts should
be impeccable, as this is the way they expect you to communicate with colleagues and clients
alike throughout your tenure in their organization.

DECISIONS AND SOLVE PROBLEMS

Decision making and problem solving is another skill that is high in demand. The ability to
identify complex problems and review related information in order to develop and evaluate
options and implement solutions, can distinguish one employee from another. The ability to use
critical thinking to rationalize a decision will set an individual apart.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS
The ability to manage people is a very powerful skill. Not only can you inspire individuals to do
what is right, you can guide them along the way, and you can monitor their progress in every
step. Being able to lead a group and manage these individuals in a way that does not impede their
progress and insult their judgement is highly desirable in today’s workplace.

MARKETING
Knowledge of the principles and methods of promoting, presenting and selling products and
services is essential, no matter what your role is in a company. At any given point in time, you
might be faced with an opportunity to promote your company and its products or services to
people you meet.

It could be simply promoting these to a friend or acquaintance, or it could be in a more formal

environment where you are pulled in for a meeting or project. Knowledge of at least basic
marketing strategy as well as a range of sales techniques and sales control systems may come in
handy.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Almost all jobs nowadays require some basic understanding of computers and electronics in
general. As we move to rely more on technology to help us conduct our daily tasks, be it
communicating, writing, calculating, presenting, drawing, creating sound, and many others, we
may need in the work place, we are being pushed towards the need to understand circuit boards,
processors, electronic equipment and computers.

Interpersonal Skills
The development of interpersonal skills is vitally important and, in reality, can only be
effectively acquired in a workplace environment. Indeed, being able to communicate with clarity
and diplomacy is an absolute requisite for any successful employee.

This doesn’t just mean being able to speak and listen, though. It’s essential to learn about the
more subtle arts of communication, such as knowing when to take the lead and when to take a
step back; these are lessons that can only be learned and observed in a real-life work scenario.
conclusion

The appropriate strategy has an impact on overall performance of the organization, helpful in the
development of competency to develop better relationships in the market. Marketing strategy at
least minimizes various challenges or threat and maximizes the chance to avail opportunities.
Most of the businesses are in the race of gaining competitive advantages against their
competitors through distinctive capabilities in order to get superior performance. Competitive
advantage can be achieved through application of appropriate marketing strategy with
technological support and strong investments. The relationship between marketing strategy and
firm’s financial performance has been a topic of major discussion for scholars. In this research
paper we focused to know the use of marketing strategy and its impact on firm’s financial
performance, and overall descriptive and econometric results suggest that firms can achieve
financial performance through appropriate marketing strategy. The findings of this research
paper contribute to marketing theories, by using the marketing expense as a variable to know the
influence on financial performance of a firm. Our study contributes in the field of marketing
research and provides managers useful decision tools to guide their own strategic decisions.

Marketing strategy has been a focus of organizations and a tool for attaining overall firm
performance. Our study contributes to the existing study of marketing strategy by supporting a
relationship between marketing strategy factors and overall firm performance. Deduction from
existing literature enabled a construction of a conceptual model that explains overall firm
performance. Promotion, pricing, distribution, and product standardization and adaptation have
an impact on sales, customer and financial performance of firms. The study suggests that the
impact is mediated by marketing strategy implementation success. At the same time the impact
of moderating factors of product homogeneity, stage of product life cycle and competitive
intensity are present. The relationship between marketing strategy and firm performance has
been well-documented and analyzed in prior research and has been a topic of major discussion
for scholars.

It is becoming increasingly apparent from the literature that marketers need to consider
customer- level information when they generate a marketing strategy for the firm. In this
article, the authors develop a customer-focused framework that uses a marketing strategy with
an overall objective of maximized financial performance. Recent studies on marketing
strategies have called for research that links product, pricing, promotion and distribution
standardization to the overall performance of the firm, more specifically, the firm’s sales,
customer and financial performance. This research operationalizes the moderating effects of
product homogeneity, competitive intensity and stages of the product cycle and examines its
relationship with firm performance. It is the first empirical research to operationalize the
above-mentioned variables with the moderating variables and the relationship with
comprehensive firm performance. Several suggestions for future research are offered to
explore and harness this newly available evidence. According to the resource-based view of
the firm, product, pricing, promotion and distribution standardization should directly influence
firms’ capabilities. These overall findings, based on prior knowledge and previous research
conducted by various authors, show that all the variables included in our study would have an
impact on the overall firm performance. No doubt there might be other factors as well that
could also significantly contribute to the individual performance factors. Future studies should
therefore empirically test our research model or expand the research model by introducing new
variables. Focus on communicating and having a direct line to the students. One of the best
ways that companies do this is by connecting and leveraging the managers of different
departments. Work closely with Career Services to make sure that students know when you're
on campus. Make your message clear and known. If you are looking for interns or have
opportunities available, make it easy and award students to reach out to you. Make sure all
types of communication paths are open and students can get information from you quickly.
Before any work begins, the employer has to take time to sit down with each of the interns and
learn more about them. Find out why they are here, what their career goals are, and what they
hope to achieve during their time with the company. This will help the employer understand
their motives and give him a better idea of how to help them during the internship. This is also
a great opportunity for him to set expectations with them.

In review, this internship has been an excellent and a rewarding experience. I have been able to
meet and network with so many staffs and workers in the organization that I am sure it will be
able to help me with opportunities in the future. One main thing that I have learned through
this internship is being responsible for what I do as well as self-motivation and I had doubts on
myself that I am going to make myself in an office. I realized how I had organized my day and
work so that I was not overlapping or wasting my hours.

I learned that I needed to be organized. From this Internship, I learned how to motivate myself
through being in the office for so many hours. 1 am extremely thankful and glad to say that
"SHINE PACK" is a perfect work place for learning and I thank my work guide Mrs. Priya for
providing such wonderful opportunity to learn and explore in a corporate culture. Initially it
was hard for me to work but on the path of going it has been memorable and cherishing
experience with lots of knowledge.
