EE 6402D PROCESS CONTROL AND AUTOMATION

1) Design a state-feedback controller, using Ackermann’s formula, with aim of placing the
closed loop poles at s = -2, -3 for the plant:having the system matrices as: (3 Marks)

2) List out the comparison between direct synthesis and internal model control methods of
determining PID controller settings. (3 Marks)

Design a state-feedback controller, using phase canonical form method, with aim of meeting
the closed loop system specification of settling time of 3.2 sec. and damping ratio to be 0.5.
State any assumptions made. (4 Marks)

4) For following second-order-plus-time delay model 𝐺(s), design a PID controller using direct
synthesis method of model-based techniques with objective of making the designed closed
system responses same as that of given desired closed-loop transfer function, 𝑌(𝑠)/𝑌𝑠𝑝 (𝑠)
