Lesson: On the shelves! (p.56)
Type of lesson: acquiring new information (Vocabulary and Grammar) and practising
communicative skills (Listening and speaking)
Skills: Integrated skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening)

Aim: to revise and give practice on food
Didactic strategies:

 Materials and equipment: textbook, notebook, workbook, audio files, speakers,
computer, OHP, pen and paper
Objectives:
1. To create interest in the topic of recipes any and to revise vocabulary related to
food
2. To use the target language in communication
3. To enrich pupils’ vocabulary and general knowledge
4. To practice vocabulary / grammar spoken and written
5. To apply the information received from the teacher in a verbal exchange
6. To verify reading comprehension through text-related activities
7. To promote self-correction gestures and peer correction

PROCEDURE

 The pupils and the teacher greet each other


 Difficulties, if any, in Ss’ homework are discussed and settled
 Peer observations and corrections are encouraged

Speaking, reading and listening

Objectives: O1, O2, O3, O4, O8

 T indicates the little song from exercise 1 on page 56 in the textbook. Ss listen to
the song and then they read it aloud.
 All new words are explained and translated
 T asks Ss: What is there on the elves’ shelves? Ss answer: Honey, beans and peas.
 Then, T tells Ss they will try to cook something healthy and delicious by
following a recipe.
 Ss are handed worksheets that ask of them to cut and paste the ingredients and the
directions for cooking strawberry crepes

Speaking, writing and reading

Objectives: O2, O3, O6, O8, O9

 T points to exercise 2 on page 56 in the textbook. Ss associate numbers to the


ingredients drawn in the book randomly.
 Then, Ss are asked to work in pairs, ask and answer as in the model: Where is Mr.
Onion in your picture? He’s in the cupboard.
 Ss report back to the class in the end

Activity 2 Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; Lockstep Timing: 8’


Listening, writing and reading

Objectives: O2, O3, O7, O8

 T begins this activity by directing Ss’ attention towards exercise 3 on page 57.

 Ss have to listen to the audio file and complete the shopping list with the missing
products.
 Other Ss are paying attention to correct any possible mistakes
 T has the role of a monitor and a feedback provider

Activity 3 Interaction: Ss-Ss; Lockstep Timing: 7’


Reading and writing

Objectives: O2, O4, O7, O8, O9

 Ss look at exercise 4 on page 57.


 Ss write down a shopping note, following the model.
 Ss report back to the class in the end.

Speaking and writing

Objectives: O2, O9

 Together with Ss, T quickly revises the new structures taught during this lesson
 T encourages Ss’ feedback at the end of the lesson
 T assigns the homework for the next English class: pages 46-47 in Ss’ activity
books.
