Type of lesson: acquiring new information (Vocabulary and Grammar) and practising
communicative skills (Listening and speaking)

Aim: to teach and give practice on Recycling and the environment

 Materials and equipment: textbook, notebook, workbook, audio files, speakers,
computer, OHP, smartboard, pen and paper

1. To create interest in the topic of recycling and to introduce vocabulary related to
environment
2. To use the target language in communication
3. To enrich pupils’ vocabulary and general knowledge
4. To identify and select the necessary information in order to carry on with a task
5. To allow structured feedback (at the end of the lesson)

Recent work: the students have been studying feelings and emotions through discovery
activities followed by language practice

Speaking

Objectives: O2, O4

 The pupils and the teacher greet each other


 Difficulties, if any, in Ss’ homework are discussed and settled
 Peer observations and corrections are encouraged
 T takes out a little bag having various small objects inside
 T asks various Ss to come in front and—keeping their eyes closed—choose one
object. By touching it, they try to guess what it is.

Speaking, reading and listening

Objectives: O1, O2, O3

 T indicates the text Troll Tales on page 74 in the textbook. Ss listen to the text and
then they role play it.
 All new words are explained and translated
 T asks Ss: What do the trolls have to do in the end?
 Then, T elicits the word “Cleaning” from the text above and asks Ss to have a
look at the pictures on the following page, asking them: What do we need to keep
clean now? The waters / nature / environment.
 T explains Ss they are going to talk about recycling and the environment.

Speaking, writing and reading

Objectives: O2, O3, O4

 T shows Ss a worksheet from Liveworksheets.com


 Ss are asked to drag every item to its matching recycling bin, for instance: The
milk carton goes to PAPER.
 Other Ss are paying attention to correct any possible mistakes

Listening, writing and reading

Objectives: O2, O4

 T begins this activity by directing Ss’ attention towards a short video on


YouTube.
 Ss have to watch the video and put down words related to the environment that
appear there.
 Ss report back to the class in the end
 T has the role of a monitor and a feedback provider

Activity 3 Interaction: Ss-Ss; Pairwork Timing:

Reading and writing

Objectives: O1, O2, O3

 Ss receive sheets of coloured paper.


 Ss work in pairs and design Recycling Posters using words from the previous
activity.
 Several pairs report back to the class in the end.

Speaking and writing

Objectives: O2, O5

 Together with Ss, T quickly revises the new structures taught during this lesson
 T encourages Ss’ feedback at the end of the lesson
 T assigns the homework for the next English class: a printed handout Ss receive in
class (asking them to match recycling vocabulary to their definition).
