The Don Simplicio Lizares Memorial High School (DSLMHS) has once again
proven its commitment to Gender and Development (GAD) through its active
participation during the recently concluded celebration of the 2022 National
Women's Month.
The School highlighted its month-long activities with the wearing of
personnel's official Women's Month purple shirts every Friday of March, parallel to
the program's theme, "Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Kaunlaran." For its first
major event relative to the annual event, the School held a webinar on mental
health, in coordination with the Talisay City Health Office, on March 11.
Nurse Arlen Cortez discussed stress management and depression in a one-
hour online forum that was participated in by teachers, who were mostly women,
from Talisay District III.
Female teachers of the School then joined an online TedTalk, which focused
on empowering women for leadership roles, and was sponsored by the Department
of Education.
On March 18, the School's faculty and support staff led the launching of its
Gulayan sa Pamayanan at Paaralan, which is partly aimed at ensuring that all genders,
especially women, are empowered through various livelihood skills and have access
to food sustainability.
This was followed by a webinar on Cyber Security for Women, entitled,
DigiGirlz, on March 19, which was participated in by female teachers and learners of
the School.
For its culminating activity, the School's faculty and non-teaching staff
participated in an afternoon of parlor games, quiz bee, bingo, and dancing, on March
31 in compliance with established health and safety protocols.
Overall, the DSLMHS' participation in the National Women's Month was
substantial proof of the School's commitment to upholding the fundamental
objectives of GAD for nation building.
