1. Do your lesson plans contain all essential elements? What are

these elements? What do you do to consider the learners’ needs
and capacity, available resources and your teaching skills?

Yes, my lesson plans contain all the essential elements. Lesson plans
typically adhere to a format that identifies goals and objectives, teaching
strategies, and assessment so the format that our cooperating teacher told us
to make is a Lesson Plan with 4a’s which focuses on four main concepts:
Activate prior knowledge, Acquire new knowledge, Application and
Assessment.

These fundamental components can be altered in a variety of ways to

meet the needs of individual students and teachers. In making lesson plans,
the first thing I need to ensure is that the students are ready to learn. In this
time of pandemic, the learning process is very crucial since the educational
system is a limited face to face only. Most of the students that I have asked do
not actually have their own gadgets and internet connections to attend online
classes and digitally participate on retrieving/submitting requirements. In my
class, Grade 9 – Palosapis, all of them chose to conduct modular learning
which proves that I need to think outside of the box on how I am going to
ensure that I am using the appropriate and fair teaching methods. However,
there are few students who are still able to participate depending on the
avaiability of their mobile data. Therefore, I make pre-recorded video lessons
to make sure that the students can have multiple references on their preferred
time to not always depend in online discussions.
I activate the students’ prior knowledge by creating interesting activities
like familiarizing words or pictures, defining terms decsribing situations in
order for the students to make important connections to previous learning and
prepare their brains for new content. With the use of the new technology, I
make it more interesting by visualizing everything using a Powerpoint
Presentation as my instructional material. The focus of my lessons is the
students. The students’ knowledge should not be sacrificed just because it is
pandemic, they should be given time and attention in order to help them fairly
and do not leave any student behind. Before moving forward on another topic,
I usually ask my students if they have any questions or clarifications about
what we have discussed. If they are shy to ask, It is my task to assess their
understanding so I evaluate them by giving written tests or oral recitations.

2. How do you ensure that your learning activities are relevant to the
topic? What factors do you consider?

In order to ensure that my learning activities are relevant to the topic,

the factors that I consider is the relatedness of every picture, video or
statements that I retrieve to use for the discussion. For example, my topic is
about “Maintaining Hand Tools”. I download a video that is about cleaning
hand tools and not cleaning a house. When I let my students guess pictures, I
provide them pictures of a flathead screwdriver, philips screwdriver, tweezers,
torx head screwdriver, wire crimper and other tools taht are considered hand
tools. I show them pictures and when they have guessed everything, I ask
them if they are familiar about what I have showed them which I have already
identified the pictures to be easily seen at home. In that way, my students will
be able to determine the hand tools in person which will allow them to better
understand what we are about to discuss.
3. To what extent do you participate in and/or cooperate with your
cooperating teacher in the planning and implementing of the
classroom activities that contribute to the development of your
learners? Provide two examples.

In preparation of the planning and implementing classroom activities, we

always consider approval from Mrs. Nilpha because it is the cooperating
teacher’s role to supervise us, the pre-service teachers, in our practicum
journey. The careful planning and preparation on the part of the cooperating
teacher can help to ensure a smooth start. In order for me to
participate/cooperate, I acquainted myself through chatting using a
messenger app, and ask for things needed to be done before I begin with my
lesson plan. Our cooperating teacher had set the tone for us by providing
encouragement, advice and examples. It is true that open communication is
significant when our cooperating teacher guide us instructional decisions and
evaluate our teaching performance. Another example is I consistently give
updates to my cooperating teacher on what is the status of my lesson
planning as it is very important to ask for a feedback for improving my work.
Also, the more I ask, the more I learn new ideas and knowledge and I think
my cooperating teacher is aware that it is very overwhelming when I get
corrections for better outputs.
