Memoq

How to start MemoQ (for translators and editors) ?


1. When the Project is assigned to you, Memoq sends you a notification mail.
by this mail you can access to your translation project.
Click on the orange rocket icon displayed on your notification mail from memoq.

2. Click on the Memoq icon on the desktop and open Memoq software.
To start the project assigned you;

1. Click on Project menu on the


toolbar.
2. Select Check out online project
option.
3. A pop up window appears on the
screen.
4. On the window, select your
server URL. (write:
www.miroraq.com)
5. Your projects list appears.

6. Click on your project.


7. After clicking on the project name, check the name and path of your project.

8. Click on Check out project


option.
9. Your translation window is
displayed.
10. You
can see the name and number of your files and also number of segments and progress from
the translations window. Click on the file you would like to start and your translation work is
ready for you.

How to work on MemoQ translation projects?

1. On the translation window;


Source segments locate on the left side,
Target segments locate on the right side.

2. Above, the red cross sign and the red box show that, segment have not been confirmed yet.
When you confirm the segment, it turns to green box and green check sign.

IMPORTANT: Short cut for confirming segments is Ctrl + Enter keys on your keyboard.

3. Below the translation grid, View pane displayed. Here, you can see your translation as a
HTML document.
Note: You can set/change the view pane's content from;

Review tab shows you;

From the review pane;


 If you click on Show changes in editor; you can see the track changes (translator's
changes).
 You can also see the QA warnings of the current segment.

4. Also, below the View pane, you can see the number of confirmed-empty-rejected, pre-
translated segment and errors.

Note: The percentage indicator on the view pane can be changed according to the segment-
word-character count. Right click on the percentages section and change it according to your
will.

5. On the translation results pane, you can see the matches from the translation memory, on
the right side of the pane.

6. The entries colored with red (red rows), show the exact matches or fuzzy matches from
TM.
The blue row shows matches from Term Base, and purple row shows ambiguous matches.
Yellow rows indicate the word matches from TM.

7. Below TM grid, there are three sections which show


the previous source segment and the current source
segment and lastly the translation.

8. When you double click on one of the entries from


TM grid, it appears on your target segment
automatically.
Note: If you click right to one of the entries, you can
view and edit the entry.

9. The percentage indicators, locate next to the target


segment show the percentage of the match from TM.
%100 and %101 matches are the exact matches,
however %101's are also context matches.
Note: Please check %100 matches even if they are the
exact matches because in some cases, they are not
updated, etc.

Concordance

1. On the translation pane you


can open the concordance
window by;

Operations -> Concordance

or,

Press Ctrl + K

2. You can optimize the


concordance settings, you
need from the pop up window.

3. You can see who created


the entry from the dark grey
window below the pop up
window.

 When you are done with your translation project, please apply Spell check and QA
check before you deliver the project.
How to select the plug-ins for the spell-checker and QA checker?

Spell Check: F7 (Short cut)

or,

Menu Toolbar -> Translation -> Spelling...

When you run the spell-check process,


a pop up window appears,
1. You can correct errors from the
given list or you can rewrite the word,
2. If you do not want to correct the
word you can use Skip button, and to
skip all the similar words please use
Skip all,
3. You can Add the word to the
dictionary.
4. You can change (correct) all the
similar words at the same time.
Note: Sometimes locked rows can be
included in your translation, if you
want to apply spell check to them,
please mark the little check box locates below the pop up spell check window.

5. From the Options tab (next to the Spelling) you can add dictionaries or you can choose one
of the current ones.

QA Check:

1. Menu Toolbar -> Operations -> Run QA

2. You can select the range you want to apply QA.

3. You can include locked segments,


all documents or active documents etc.

4. When you check "Proceed to resolve warnings


after QA" box, it proceeds you to another tab, where
you can correct the errors.
How to correct an error detected after QA?

1. QA window shows you the errors, you can see the description of error from Description
area,
2. You can correct the error directly from the displayed segment.
3. Warnings can be ignored or similar kind of warnings can be ignored at the same time.
4. You can hide warnings that you ignored or you can hide all warnings.
5. If it is necessary, QA report can be exported from that window.

OR,

1. Double click on the lightning symbol standing


next to
the target segment and correct visible errors.

Note: Lightning symbol and QA method show the


technical errors (double blank, number issues etc.)
However, QA window shows more errors and in detail.

How to split and join segments in MemoQ?

On the translation pane,

To join segments;

1. Press Ctrl+J to join the current segment with the next one. MemoQ will join the segments
in the document where the cursor is: segments will be joined either on the source side or on
the target side only. If you select multiple segments, and then press Ctrl+J, MemoQ will join
all selected segments.

2. You can use icon locates in translation pane toolbar, to join segments.
To split segments;

1. Press Ctrl+T to split the current segment at the current cursor position. (Always remember
to position the cursor first to the place where you want to split the segment.)

2. You can use icon locates in translation pane toolbar, to split segments.

Note: Segment splitting and joining process are just working with the "desktop projects". It
does not work in online projects.

How to clean your files?

1. Export bilingual;
1. On Project Home Page;
Click "Export Bilingual" option (for the selected project/file
on "documents" screen)->
2.If you choose "TRADOS Compatible Bilingual DOC",
It exports the file as a Trados project and you can clean up as in Trados.

2. Export (dialog);
On Project Home Page;
Click "Export (dialog)" option (for the
selected project/file
on "documents" screen)->
Memoq exports the clean and originally
formatted file.

How to open a TRADOS 2007 TM with Memoq?

1. Navigate to the Translation memories pane of the Resource console.


Or, in an open project, click the Translation memories icon in Project
home.

In both cases, a list of translation memories appears.


You will also see a list of translation memories in the third page of the new
memoQ project wizard.

Select the translation memory where you want to import the CSV file, click
the Import from TMX/CSV link, then, in the Open dialog, locate and select
the TMX file to import.
The Translation memory TMX import setting dialog automatically appears after you specify
the TMX file to import, and M emoQ finishes analyzing the TMX file.
