Sensation :sensation is the initial stimulation of our sensory systems (sight, hearing, touch, taste and
smell).

Perception :perception is the process by which the brain selects, organizes, and interprets these
sensations.

Attention:Attention is the ability to focus our senses on a particular object.

Memory and conscious experience :

Memory :Memory is the ability to take in information, store it, and recall it at a later time. In psychology,
memory is broken into three stages: encoding, storage, and retrieval.

Conscious experience : Consciousness refers to your individual awareness of your unique thoughts,
memories, feelings, sensations, and environments.Your conscious experiences are constantly shifting
and changing.

Social Mind : social mind is a concept in evolutionary psychology, it refers to the distinctively human
capacity to 'read' .
Mental illness :Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or
behavior.Mental illnesses are associated with distress and problems .

Approaches in psychology :

1.The Behavioral Approach:Behavioral psychology the perspective that focuses on the learning process
and learning behavior. Today, the behavioral perspective is still concerned with How behaviors are
learned and reinforced.

2.The Biological Approach:Biological approach is the scientific study of biological bases of behavior and
mental states .

3.The Humanistic Approach:This approach emerged during the 1950’s and decided to look at the
individuals behavior through observation and also with how that certain person views life.

Fields of psychology :

1.Developmental psychology :It is concerned with growth and development from conception till
death.All aspects of the animal or human organism (biological, psychological ,physical)may be studied .

2.Forensic psychology : It is defined as an intersection between psychology and the criminal justice
system.

3.Environmental Psychology :The field defines the term environment broadly including all that is natural
on the planet as well as social ,built environments, informational environments.

4.Social Psychology :Social psychologists focus on topics such as social roles,interpersonal attraction.
