1. SCOPE LA This specification covers eight types of portland cement as follows (see Note) LAL Type /—For use when the spe- cial properties specified for any other type are not required. 12 Type iA—Air-entraining ce- ment for the same uses as Type f. where air-entrainment is desired. 113 Type ll—For general use, more especially when moderate sulfate resis- tance or moderate heat of hydration is desired, L14 Type 1A—Air-enteaining ce- ‘ment for the same uses as Type II, where air-entrainment is desired. LLS Type Il—For use when high carly strength is desired. LLG Type 1A—Air-enteaining ce- ‘ment for the same use as Type Ill, where airentrainment is desired. 1.1.7 Type 1V—For use when low heat of hydration is desired. 11.8 Type V—For use when high sulfate resistance is desired, 1.2 When both ST and incl-pound units are present, the SI units are the standard. The inch-pound units are ap- proximations listed for information only. NOTE—Attention i called tothe (act that, cements conforming to the requirements for all ofthese types may not be carried in stock im some areas. In advance of specifying the tse of other than Type I cement, it should be determined whether the proposed «ype of cement is or can be made available.
