Answer:

Among many topics of Tcm that we studied the knowledge

point that I love the most is “pulse taking”

why? Because Once I went to a “traditional practitioner”

with my uncle( as my uncle was not feeling well ) the
practitioner took his pulse with full attention and told him that
your liver is not functioning well but I didn’t believe and took
him to a clinical medicine specialist. The specialists did
series of tests and then told that my uncle suffering from a
liver disease.

From then I realized that how much important the pulse

taking skill is for an accurate diagnosis in short time.

I listened that TCM masters are able to tell the gender of

fetus by feeling pulse that inspired me a lot.

Right now, I’m no where near a pulse taking masters but I’m
keen to learn more and more about pulse taking art.

 Formation of pulse is closely related all the organs so

any changes or deficiencies of the organs can be
detected by pulse taking.
 However pulse taking is Only accurate when the
practitioner is experienced.

Method: we use three fingers at three positions ( Cun,Guan, chi) on

each wrist by touching, pressing and searching on each wrist(radial

side).

Normal pulse: is neither fast nor slow (4-5 beats to one cycle of

respiration) strong on all three levels and in all three fingers nor too

soft or too thin and feels calm and smooth.

Pulse changes in some physiological circumstances: Climate,

Physical activity and mental state , Age, sex and Constitution, Coffee

etc.

Clinical importance:

I) weak pulse indicates qi or yang deficiency , (Heart failure or

hemorrhage, weakness , Insomnia low Bp) II)strong pulse

indicates excess in body (stress, anger, high blood pressure etc)

III) Rapid and slow pulse indicates heat or cold respectively. IV)

Wiry pulse pulse indicates tense vascular qi due liver not

performing it’s work properly.

Qualities: In TCM there are 29 different pulse qualities that aid in

different diagnosis.

By careful pulse taking we could now which area of our

body needs attention and it save time, money( on
complex test series in western medicine) and give cure
on time . So in this regard it’s going to enlighten my
major clinical medicine and going to help me-during
clinical practice.
