EXT. WHITE LEDGE


ASHLEY IS SEEN LOOKING OVER A WHITE LEDGE, OUT INTO THE BLUE SKY.
SHE IS DRESSED IN ALL WHITE AND HER HAIR IS FLOWING IN THE WIND.
ASHLEY
I feel light, almost floating, almost cold. I can’t feel
myself anymore. A flood of blinding light consumes me, as if I
am here no more.

THE SCREEN FLOODS TO WHITE AND THE TITLE SCREEN IS SHOWN, BEFORE
FADING BACK INTO THE PLOT OF THE SHORT FILM.

EXT. WHITE PILLARED BUILDING – DAYTIME


A MEDIUM CLOSE UP OF ASHLEY AWAKENING IN THIS NEW ENVIRONMENT. SHE
IS DAZED YET CALM, SHE LOOKS AROUND THE PLACE AND ALSO LOOKS AT
HERSELF. SHE IS DRESSED IN WHITE YET AGAIN, HER NAILS ARE PAINTED
WHITE ASWELL, AS SEEN WITH A SHOT OF ASHLEY LOOKING DOWN AT HER
HANDS.
THE SHOT CUTS TO HER WALKING NOW, AND SUDDENLY A VOICE IS HEARD FROM
BEYOND HER. IT SEEMS AS IF THE SOUND TRAVELLED TO ASHLEY FROM THE
SKY, SHE LOOKS UP IN SURPRISE.

THE VOICE
Time to dig deeper
ASHLEY
So this is it? That final port of call that I’ve sailed
towards since the start, the blankness between lifetimes, the
waiting room before rebirth.

ASHLEY WALKS INTO A PILLAR, A MATCH CUT IS USED TO TRANSPORT HER


INTO THE NEXT LOCATION.
EXT. THE WOODS – DAYTIME
ASHLEY WALKS OUT INTO THE WOODED LOCATION, SHE IS CONSTANTLY
MOVING AND LOOKING AROUND IN AWE.
ASHLEY
I am enchanted by this realm, cocooned in unconditional love
and forgiveness. It’s just easy to be here.
Walking here is beyond worldly description. This place is so
vastly empty yet so filling to my remaining senses, feeding me
with all the knowledge and awareness that I shied away from as
a human being.

A CENTRAL SHOT OF ASHLEY, AS SHE TURNS HER HEAD TO TRANSITION TO THE


NEXT LOCATION.

EXT. OTHER WOODED LOCATION – DAY TIME


ASHLEY IS NOW SEEN IN ANOTHER WOODS, SHE PICKS UP A STICK AND
WANDERS AROUDN WITH IT. MANY SHOTS OF HER AMONGST TREES, LEAVES, AND
OTHER VEGETATION. SOME LONG SHOTS OF THE LOCATION CAN BE SEEN.
ASHLEY
When I chose that vessel, that human body, I planned for the
expedition that I called my life. I came into this world
wanting to be an explorer, yet I’d never let myself embody
that wish. I never chased those moments of passion or
motivation, that deep down urge to be curious, to take risks.
I killed every adventure before it began.
It was about the journey, not destination. I’ve succeeded the
path now, hovering on the very last step. But am I content
with my experience? I didn’t take the opportunity to pause
and look around, to appreciate the scenery on the way here. I
consciously chose not to take those curious detours, despite
my gut instinct persuading me to.

ASHLEY IS BROKEN OUT OF THE EXPLORATION BY THE VOICE AGAIN,


SEEMINGLY COMING FROM ABOVE.

THE VOICE
You remember now, but there is more to come
A CENTRALISED MID SHOT OF ASHLEY, TURNING HER HEAD TO
TRANSITION TO THE NEXT LOCATION.

EXT. POND – DAWN


ASHLEY IS SAT FOR THE REMAINDING SHOTS, SHE IS VISIBLY MORE CALM AND
COMTEMPLATIVE. SHE CAN BE SEEN AMONGST LONG GRASS AND LOOKING OVER A
POND.
ASHLEY
I want to say it’s a waste but it’s not even that, it’s just a
shame. I feel a hollowness for the opportunities that I didn’t
take. I almost pity the human version of myself, the
limitations that she set for herself.

A FLASHBACK TO ASHLEY’S HUMAN LIFE IS SHOWN.

EXT. UNSPECIFIED LOCATION – DAY TIME


A YOUNG COUPLE HANGING OUT ON A PUBLIC BENCH, THEY ARE BOTH HAPPY
AND SMILING. A CLOSE UP SHOT OF AN AWKWARD MOVEMENT OF THEIR HANDS
GETTING CLOSER.

Love. I should have let myself take risks for love. I thought
I wasn’t good enough for the one person I’d been fixated on
forever. But it was all in my mind, everything really is. I
know now that he could have loved me too, if I had just let
him.

EXT. POND – DAWN


ASHLEY
I hold the power in life, and my experience is in my own
control.
I want to try again, just an opportunity to try again.
And I can.

Contingency Plan

If my main character is suddenly unavailable, my backup actor would be Harry Connor. I


would have to shoot the scenes in regard to his scholar schedule, which would be quite
challenging, however I know that he is a reliable actor due to his drama background and
confidence on camera.
If my supporting character is unavailable, I would be able to ask almost any
male friend to step in for that role. Because this scene will be shot on a trip
where I am with all of my friends, finding a last-minute backup should be an
easy task. The person I chose barely has to act, more so just be present in the
scene.

My whole short film is shot outdoors, and I plan for good weather conditions to make this
possible. Rain or wind would be disruptive, and if there are sudden changes in the forecast I
would have to postpone filming. If this isn’t an option, I would adapt my idea to be shot in
very minimal indoor locations, e.g. white rooms, corridors, halls.

I am planning to use my own camera for this production. If I cant do this for any reason, I
will request to borrow college equipment. If my need is more last-minute, I could borrow a
close friend’s camera.

I will also use my own tripod, and if I can’t, yet again I will either request to borrow college
equipment or ask a friend.
