 To become world class telecom service provider.

The missions of the company are:
1. Connect Ethiopia through state of the art telecom services

services that enhance the development of our nation and ensure high
customer satisfaction

The goal of the company is:
 To achieve the mission and vision of the company
Objectives
The objectives are:
 Collect, analyze and disseminate demographic and economic data to
serve public and private decision makers at all levels, on fiscal and
monetary policy, business finance and investment strategy, and
personal household economic matters.
 Provide leadership in trade promotion, economic development, and
economic analysis.

Strategies
The company termed its 5 years strategy (2021-2024) as BRIDGE after the
first letters of each of the six major strategic pillars. In this 5 years
strategy the company plans to achieve the following strategic issues.
 Best customer experience
 Reputable brand
 Innovative product, service and technology excellence
 Develop people oriented earning organization
 Growth in financial capacity
 Excellent in operation

2. Mission Statement Development for the Organization


“Connecting Ethiopia through state of the art telecom services by provide
high quality, innovative and affordable telecom products and services that
enhance the development of our nation and ensure high customer
satisfaction by building its managerial capability and man power talent
that enables Ethio telecom to operate at international level and its
reputable brand known for its customers’ consideration and support
community and environmental development.”
3. SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Ethio telecom is a public corporation which monopolize the telecom
business of the country and is involved in every aspect of the nation’s
activity. As being the only telecom provider, the company has many
strengths, some of them are listed below.
 Resource such as cutting-edge fiber-optics technology and high-
performing cable equipment
 Respected brand name
 Excellent customer service
 Strong sales team are just

Weaknesses
Ethio telecom has some weaknesses that may hurt the company’s
performance. Some are listed hereunder.
 In some parts of the company there is slow network
 Corroded cable lines
 Expensive service fee
 Low coverage of some services throughout the country

Opportunities
The biggest opportunity of the company is its being a monopolistic
company. Currently there is no one competitive in the country which gives
the entire market share of the country’s telecom industry to Ethio telecom.

Other opportunities that can be considered are new and emerging


technologies and increasing consumer interest in using the telecom
service.
Threats
The greater threat of Ethio telecom is the competitive environment that
can be anticipated with the newly entrant which is coming to the industry.
Besides, in the current situation of the country, the political instability
and related damages in the infrastructures of the company is the other
current threat.

4. Competitors Analysis
As discussed above Ethio telecom is the only telecom service provider in
our country. However, it does not seem to continue like this. A private
company, named Safaricom Ethiopia is joining the business which will
create a tough competitive environment for Ethio telecom. The existence
of such a company will affect the policies of Ethio telecom regarding,
service fee, salary scale, quality of service, customer handling and so on.

5. Current Problems Facing the Company


The biggest problem that Ethio telecom currently facing is the damage
occurring on the infrastructures related to the war which our country is
in.
The war also creates shortage of budget which not only make expansions
and development impossible but also, it will make difficult the
maintenance of the damaged infrastructures.

6. Steps The Company Should Take to Improve its


Competitive Position in Today’s Marketplace
In order to improve its competitive position in today’s marketplace, Ethio
telecom should perform a serious assessment of its internal and external
environment, review its business policies, and study international best
practices and industry trends.
The company should also consider providing better quality service with
lesser service fee and improve its employee’s capacity.

Considering service diversification and introducing innovated services


which inspire customers to use their service and improving the coverage
throughout the country.

The company should also think about penetrating and joining the
international business by providing quality service with fair price.

7. Company’s ways of Serving its Community and its


Employees
Beyond the usual business service, Ethio telecom serves the community in
different ways. The company lends its hands in different national
emergencies such as the current difficult situations by giving considerable
amount of money form the company and as contribution from the
employees’ salary. It also participated in different charity organization to
help the members of the community who are in need.

The company also serve its employees through paying better salary and
other benefit packages like paying according to their performance, giving
bonus and providing data and voice packages according to their position
and service year. Moreover, the company facilitates loan for its employees
for purchasing of houses and personal cars and many of them are
benefited from it.

8. Strategy We Would use if We were CEO of this Company


If we were the company’s CEO, we use three major strategies.
1. Price reduction
2. Penetrating to international market, and
3. Increase service coverage
9. Recommended specific strategies and long-term objectives
We recommend specific strategies such as, service development,
innovation, integration, market development, diversification, price
reduction and improving coverage.
As long term objective, we recommend delivering the telecom service
outside the country and become international competitor and generate
foreign currency for our country.

10. Ways to Implement the recommendations


Our strategy can be implemented through continues learning and
improvement, employee development, innovation, strong collaboration of
employee and management, improved customer handling, assessing and
improving customer satisfaction, being aware of competitors strength and
weakness.

11. Justification of our Recommendation and why We think


it will work
Justification for each specific strategy is discussed below.

 Service Development - this involves improving the quality of


service, increase the type of services to be provided to the
customers, improving customer handling and so on. We think it will
bring success to the company by crating loyal customers and in turn
will secure the company’s revenue.
 Innovation – this will bring new services and/or new ways of
providing the existing services. This will result in improved
customer satisfaction and improved company revenue.
 Integration – integration enhance the service giving capacity of a
company. Companies with better integration can provide faster
service for their customers. Moreover, this will help them to save
their time and cost which will result in higher profit.
 Market Development – this will improve the market share of a
company and help them maintain their competitive position in the
market.
 Diversification – may require to have a strategy to involve in
different businesses within the same industry. For instance, Ethio
telecom, as having longer years of experience in the telecom
business can involve in telecom education and can train many
expertise for the industry for both national or international use.
 Price Reduction – as competitor entering into the business, it will
be difficult to continue in the market for Ethio telecom with the
current price it is charging. The company will loss significant
amount of its customers if it is not reduce its price in the near
future. Besides, price reduction will make customers to use more
service which will increase the total revenue of the company.
Therefore, reducing price will help the company in improving its
market place.
 Improving coverage – when coverage improves, new customers will
start to use the services of the company. This will have a great effect
in increasing the company’s revenue and profit.

12. Recommendations to address the operations strategic


issues of the Company

We recommend the following issues for the company to address its operations
strategy.
 Improved service quality
 Good customer service/handling
 Continues improvement and innovation
 Fair price
 Employee training and development
 International market penetration
 Increased service coverage.
