RENAME

1. Go to Workspace > New. Create workspace “TUTORIAL3”.

2. Launch Pro/engineer in TUTORIAL3 workspace.

3. Open startpart_sleeve.drw and startpart_sleeve_flat.drw from

\\kchjsvss01\shareall\intralink_training\parts

4. Save both the drawings in the workspace. Close both drawings in pro/e and clear the session using
Erase > Not Displayed.

5. In the workspace window, Click refresh (or go to Workspace > Refresh). You will see 7 objects (3
part files, 2 drawing files and 2 formats) in the workspace.

6. Select following 4 objects, press RMB and choose Rename.

startpart_sleeve.prt
startpart_sleeve.drw
startpart_sleeve_flat.prt
startpart_sleeve_flat.drw

7. Rename dialog box will open. In the “New Name” column, type names as in the following figure-

Click OK.

Notice that Workspace Status of all the objects is “New”.

Note: In workspace you can Rename only New objects.

TABLE CONFIGURATION

You can control the display of the Workspace using the Table Configuration option. Using this option,
you can-
• Keep your desired attributes in the columns.
• Sort the objects by ascending or descending the attributes
• Filter the objects by some value of an attribute.

8. Click (or go to View > Table Configuration > Modify…). Following dialog box will open-

Click Create button. Type “Custom” as Preference Selection and Click OK.

9. A new name “Custom”will be added to Configuration Name list in the left portion of dialog box.

Select “Compare Status” from Available Attributes and click to make it available in the
displayed Columns.
Use UP button to move “Compare Status” up in the Displayed Columns.

10. Repeat previous step for “Commonspace Status” also.

11. Click Update and OK.

Notice that in the workspace window, two more columns are added (“Compare Status” and
“Commonspace Status”).

Next time you login Pro/intralink, you need not to make this table configuration again. This table
configuration is saved. You just need to change the table configuration from “Workspace – Global” to
“Custom” from the toolbar shown below-

It is always a good practice to keep “Compare Status” and “Commonspace Status” columns in your
workspace because these columns tell you about the status of objects in commonspace and compare the
status in commonspace with that in workspace. If some changes are done in commonspace, then you will
come to know about that through these columns.
COMPARE STATUS (SAME NAME EXISTS)

“Compare Status” column describes the difference between Workspace and Commonspace.
When you create any object in your workspace and an object with the same name already exists in the
commonspace, then “Compare Status” of the object is “Same Name Exists”.

When you want to modify an object (existing in commonspace), you always do it in two different ways-

i) If you can modify the object (existing in commonspace) by directly working on it in

Pro/engineer, then checkout the object and work on it with Pro/engineer. In this case, “Same
Name Exists” will not be there in “Compare Status” column.

ii) If you can not modify the object (existing in commonspace) by directly working in
Pro/engineer (e.g. you want to use start part), then you create a “New” object in your
workspace and overwrite that new object over the object existing in commonspace. The
procedure for overwrite is given below.

12. In the “Compare Status” column, notice that “Same name exists” ( ) is displayed against q119463.prt
and the formats. It means the objects with same name already exist in the commonspace.

Open both drawings (q119463.drw and q119463f.drw) in Pro/engineer and keep them opened for some
time.

13. In workspace window, select all the objects except formats and press “Delete” from keyboard (or right
click and choose Delete). To confirm deletion, click Yes.

14. Locate and checkout q119463.prt.

15. Clear “Read only” status of q119463.prt using “Change status” (if it is “Read Only”)

16. Remember that the two drawings are still open in pro/e.

Go to pro/e window and save q119463f.drw first and then save q119463.drw.

This will overwrite q119463.prt in workspace with that existing in the pro/e session.
Do not close the drawings in pro/e.

17. Go to workspace and click “Refresh”.

18. You will see the following objects-

Notice that Workspace Status of q119463.prt is “Modified” and Compare Status is clear.

But one more object is created in workspace (the last object in the figure with gray color icon which looks
like torn page).
This object is called “Ghost” file (or Virtual file).

Every time Pro/engineer object references other object that is not in memory or in current workspace,
Pro/intralink will create a Ghost object. This file is undesired

To avoid this you need to save the files from pro/engineer with a different sequence (see step 16).

Click Undo . The last action of saving q119463.drw will be undone.

Again click Undo . The action of saving q119463f.drw will be undone.

19. In Pro/engineer, open q119463.prt from model tree of q119463.drw. Save q119463.prt first, then save
q119463.drw and then save q119463f.drw.

20. Refresh workspace. Now no Ghost file will be created in the workspace.
21. Close the drawings and part in pro/e and clear session using Erase > Not Displayed.

22. Select the formats, right click and choose Update.

23. Checkout window will open. Click OK.

After checking out, notice that Workspace Status and Compare Status of formats are clear.

There are other icons which appear in Compare Status column which appear in different situations-

Out of Date Version - A newer version of an object in your Workspace exists

in the Commonspace. You can use Update to get the newer version

Version or Object Deleted - The current version or the entire object checked
out from the Commonspace has been deleted from the Commonspace.

Object Renamed of Moved - An object checked out of the Commonspace

has been renamed or moved within the Commonspace.
