ABOUT THE IMPROVED
CATEGORY TREE
Upcoming changes to expect in June
Here’s what you should know about the upcoming adjustment for the category tree:
1. We have made the following improvements:

○ Adjustments to the current categories for a more stable category tree
○ Addition of new attribute types to improve search results
2. Categories of your existing listings will be automatically updated by our system to match the new
structure.
3. Our system may fill in some attribute values for your listings, based on the existing product information.
4. There’ll be a proper registration process to add your brand to our database, so that it can be tagged to your
listings and improve search visibility.

ABOUT THE IMPROVED CATEGORY TREE 4
A stabilised tree to support better search
As sellers, the categories you see on Seller Centre may differ from the product categories that shoppers see when
they are browsing on the Shopee platform.
What shoppers see during search is configured based on the attributes and brand information you provided for
your listings.
Having accurate and comprehensive attribute information improves the visibility of your products and produces
better search results, as shoppers may search for specific attributes such as sleeve length, material, style, and
more.

A stabilised tree to support better search
For example, while you may have uploaded two products under the same category on Seller Centre, shoppers may
see them under different categories on the Shopee platform during search.

Mandatory attributes and attribute values
Mandatory attributes are attribute values that are required for your products to ensure their visibility to shoppers.
During this improvement, we will add necessary attributes for particular product types. This will improve search
results and helps buyers make informed purchases.
Our system may fill in some attribute values for your listings, based on the existing product information. Do check
and ensure that you fill in all remaining mandatory attributes.
Use Attributes Tool via the My Products page on Seller Centre to check your listings and identify those with
missing mandatory attribute information. You can then fill in the missing attribute information and update the
listings directly.
There will be a transition period for you to make these changes, more information and detailed guidelines will be
shared nearer to date.

About Product Category Guide
The Product Category Guide is an online directory on Seller Education Hub that lets you search for a product
category in order to learn more about it.
For each category, you’ll find details such as:

● Examples of products with images
● Mandatory attributes of products and example of attribute values
● Examples of product attribute values with images and description

Add a New Brand Name

Add a New Brand Name
When filling in your listing’s brand information, you can submit an application to add your brand to our database.
● You will be informed about

the outcome of your
application via notification
within 5 days after
submission.
● During the review process,

you can use the submitted
brand name temporarily.
● If your application is
unsuccessful, the brand
information for your listing
will be set as “No Brand”.

Mass Upload - Advanced Template
Use the Advanced Mass Upload Template to fill in attribute information for products under each category.

select Advanced Template.
