to as BTE or Behind-The-Ear Hearing aid.

 Behind The Ear – BTE Hearing AID:

These are the most common type of hearing aids. BTE hearing aid can be used by people who
suffer from moderate to profound hearing loss ear pain, and other issues. Being sturdy, this
type of hearing aid is easy to maintain. The hearing aids have a larger battery life and are bigger
in size, thus reducing the risk of misplacing the earpiece. People with hearing impairment can
experience discomfort as wearing these can make them difficult to use phones and can give
them a feeling of a “clogged” ear.

 Micro Behind-The-Ear:
These types of hearing aids, as the name suggests, are smaller than the conventional ones and
the most basic type of behind-the-ear hearing aid. Micro BTE are best suited for people with
mild to moderately severe hearing impairment. Micro BTE is sturdy, long lasting and they are
easy to maintain. Since they are smaller in size, they have a comparatively less battery size as
compared to the usual BTE. Although smaller, they can still be inconvenient to be used with a
telephone. Having a directional microphone, micro BTE is not suitable for severe hearing loss.

 Open Fit BTE

This type of hearing aid is best suited for slopping type-hearing loss, which means, it works best
with filtering sounds at lower frequencies. Thus, these cater people with moderately severe
hearing impairment. This hearing aid accommodates sound that is more natural and has a
directional microphone. The hearing aid is not suitable for severe hearing impairment because
of its less frequency coverage. Open fit BTE is free size hearing aid and is easy to maintain
because of its sturdy and long lasting design. It comes with smaller batteries, hence shorter
battery life.

 Receiver In Canal (RIC) / RITE hearing aid

Thus, type of hearing aid is used for all types of hearing impairments. With an excellent sound
quality, it covers the maximum range of frequency. RITE hearing aid is smaller in size and is
easy to handle. Although it has a sleek design, it can be hard to use with a telephone. It has a
medium battery as compared to other BTE’s. Like all other Behind-The-Ear hearing aids, RITE
can also make it hard to use it with a telephone.
