Making Connections in Dear Martin

Today was the second book club meet. We had a good discussion about the

book.

Today I was the connector for my group’s book talk. I

connected this quote: “It’s like I’m trying to climb a mountain, but

I’ve got one fool trying to shove me down so I won’t be on his

level, and another fool tugging at my leg, trying to pull me to the

ground he refuses to leave” (Stone 66) and the idea of Jus being uncertain about SJ

and his debate topic at first, but understands the long term importance and sticks to the

idea. I connected both of these ideas to myself. I connected this with emotions and

events that have happened to me. I feel like making these two connections helped me

better understand the character of Jus and the reasoning behind his actions and

emotions.

My group today had some very in depth

conversations on the book today. One of the

topics we talked about in the discussion was if

we thought Jus’ actions and words said at the

birthday party were deemed reasonable or predictable to us based on what we already

know about his character.

We also talked about Justyce’s debate teacher. All of us in the

group, all said that we thought that Jus’ debate teacher was an outgoing

guy that cares about his students and treats them like family.

Overall, I feel like we had a good book club meeting today and I can’t wait

for the next one.
