My Challenges

Moving to a new place and starting over can be challenging. Also, having a dream that

sometimes seems out of reach comes with its own hurdles. I have always been someone

interested in the medical field, and I even came to the United States so I can achieve my dream

of becoming a doctor. The challenge is to be able to study medicine is very important to me

because it is my dream to be able to help many people and learn everything about medicine and

improve myself academically.

While in Mexico, I finished all my studies and entered the university. I graduated from

high school and then I studied hard to take the exam for the university. However, before I could

actually take the exam, I had the opportunity to come to the United States. I had to make the hard

decision to either continue in Mexico or move to the United States. Eventually I made the

decision to make the move.

Since I did not stay in college in Mexico, when I came to the United States, I had to go

back to high school. I faced many challenges as I was away from my family. I was in a new

country that was unfamiliar to me. I did not speak English and though many people speak

Spanish in San Diego, the language was somewhat different. I also had to get a job and start

working to help take care of myself.

Throughout this time and from the things I have experienced, I have learned a lot such as

how difficult it is to be away from my family and my country. I also gained a lot from my

experiences because I became more independent. I learned to value many things and see things

differently such as understanding new ways methods to complete tasks. When working, I

realized the importance of being responsible and communicating with others.

The challenges of being away from my family, going to school and working has been

difficult but I made sure to push myself every day to work hard so I could reach my goals. I am

currently on my last course at the Charter School of San Diego, and I am excited to be done

soon. After I graduate from high school, my goal is to take more English classes so I can get

better with understanding and speaking the language. I will also start to find out what I need to

do to enter the army and study medicine so I can continue with my dream of becoming a doctor.
