• Fread compared the mind with iceberg to
describe the three level of the mind .

• On the surface it is Consciousness, which consists of


those thoughts that are the focus of our attention
now , this is seen as the tip of the iceberg.

• The subconscious consist of those which can be


retrieve from our memory .

• The most significant part is the unconscious . It


plays an eminent role in deciding our behavior .

desires .
• Id cannot distinguish between good and evil . It
is dominated by the pleasure principle .

Example :

• Id : I want car .

• Ego : I will save money and the I will buy my own car .

• Super Ego : there is need of car , I will take bus .


Libido
• Libido is that part of the Id which seeks its gratification from sexual activities.
• Libido is present even in the infant .

Fixation
• Fixation is the use of particular amount of energy at particular level or stage .
Stages of libido
1. Oral stage (birth to 1 year ) : at this stage child get pleasure from sucking thumb and
breastfeeding .

2. Anal stage (1-3 year ) : the child derives much pleasure from anal manipulation and
controlled urination.

3. Phallic stage (3-6 year ) : the child start touching his genitals . Oedipus and Electra
complex develops in this stage.
• Electra Complex : girl sense o competition with her mother for the
affections of her father .
• Oedipus Complex : Boys sense of competition with her father for the
affection of her mother .
4. Latency stage (6-13 years ) : this is the
latency stage where the Libido gets latent .
The child gets busy in the school activities .

• Erik Erickson focused on psychosocial development rather then psychosexual

Language Development theories
The learning Perspective by B.F skinner –
• Children imitate what they see and hear as well as what they learn from
punishment and reinforcement .
• Adult shape the speech of children by reinforcement the babbling of
infant .
• Skinner argued that children learn language based on behaviorist
reinforcement principle by associating words with meanings.

The nativist theory by Noam Chomsky –
• This is the biological based theory , saying that humans are pre-
programmed with the innate ability to develop language . \

• Chomsky proposed that all humans have language acquisition device


(LAD) or language learning device ( LLD).
• This pre-loaded grammar rules which help in learning of new language.

The Interactional theory by lev Vygotsky –

• A social constructivist : focused the role of society and culture in


development of child.
• He believed that the development of language takes place with
cooperation of child with more knowledgeable person of society .
