 Green Logistics Essay

According to the reading, green logistics has mainly been applied in the
transportation industry. The word green has not only been applied to this industry in
particular, in reality today the best thing for industries is to think green, to think about the
environment. The logistics industry manifested itself to achieve great things in the markets.
It should be noted that while other industries focused more on improving advanced
distribution issues, such as means of transportation, storage, etc., while the logistics
industry is moving towards recycling and pollution elimination markets. , which is what
they call reverse logistics.

I think that these types of initiatives that help the environment are successful
strategies, since it has become a very important factor at a commercial and business level.
The issue of household waste is also a key factor in helping with these inconveniences, or
rather, problems, and it is pleasing to realize that society is aware of the effects that serious
pollution could cause worldwide.

It is common for toxic or polluting waste to be taken to special places where it

should be noted that despite the fact that these spaces are so large that they are already
exceeding the capacity for this waste. All this problem of contamination of all kinds, cannot
lead to the depletion of resources, something that is quite important for our quality of life,
so much so, that the green logistics industry is not enough to solve all this.

Now, speaking of the transport logistics industry, there are obviously

inconsistencies in these systems with respect to the environmental issue. Paradoxes in
issues of cost, time and speed, reliability, storage, electronic commerce are the most
discussed in this field. With the issue of costs it is somewhat complicated since as time
goes by these costs that go hand in hand with the environment are increasing exaggeratedly,
this is because, if the logistics part receives some benefits, the environmental part receives
exaggerated charges and costs.

In terms of time and speed, when time flows are reduced, the speed of distribution
systems increases, as well as efficiency. Unfortunately, what causes this are the types of
transport that are much more polluting than the common ones and, in turn, are the least
recommended for their efficiency, leading to the energy field.

In reliability, the customer is paramount here, since his order is expected to arrive in
good condition at the time a service is provided. For them, each distribution chooses to
acquire the most reliable transport, and it is advisable to use the least polluting, although
they stipulate that the least polluting means are the least reliable in terms of delivery times,
safety and lack of breakage. It should be noted that the logistics area chooses to take air
transport or trucks, but unfortunately they are the ones that pollute the most.

In the storage part, the logistics systems are based on the reduction of inventories,
because strategies of speed and reliability in deliveries are used to eliminate storage areas,
which is why logistics leads to a reduction in demands. storage. Something to keep in mind
is that the environment, together with society, has been assuming all the external costs in
terms of storage.

There is not much to say about electronic commerce regarding green logistics, only
that there is something relevant and that is that as everything becomes more technological,
distribution systems physically change. In the past, the buyer bore the costs of moving the
products from the store to his home, but with e-commerce, this segment of the supply chain
must be integrated into the merchandise distribution process, now, there are warehouses
located outside the areas metropolitan areas from which large quantities of small packages
are shipped in vans and trucks to separate online shoppers.

To conclude, I can say that green logistics influences something towards the
environmental part, but it should be clarified that it does not solve everything since much
more work should be done together with the other industries that can sometimes be even
more polluting.
