Title: Self concept plays role in academic motivation.

Abstract:

Achievement motivation is “pattern of planning of actions and of feelings connected with striving to
achieve some internalized standards of excellence as contrasted for willpower or friendship. As
academic achievement is not a function of cognitive variable alone ,the empathetic stress on the
contribution of the psychological variable is imperative as such which of the psychological variable is of
prime importance. Motivation can be defined as a driving force behind all the actions of an individual.
The influence of an individuals needs and desires both have a strong impact on the direction of their
behaviour.

The present study examined the achievement and its relationship with achievement motivation and self
concept. The participants of study consists of 500 adolescents students both male and female from
various government and non-government institutions of Srinagar district of Kashmir valley.

Data was collected by using Self concept scale developed by Rastogi R.M(1979) and Achievement
motivation scale by Shah.B(1986).. The results of the study revealed that achievement motivation and
self concept are significantly related to academic motivation
