ANALOG CIRCUITS

Answer Question No.1 compulsorily. (12 x 1 = 12)
Answer One Question from each unit. (4 x 12 = 48)
1. Answer the following:
(a) Draw the Hybrid-π model of the bipolar transistor without early effect. CO1
(b) List the important parameters of the amplifier AC analysis? CO1
(c) What are the features of Darling ton pair? CO1
(d) Compare DC analysis and AC analysis of the MOSFET amplifier? CO2
(e) If two stages are connected with a gain of 10 dB and 20 dB, then find the CO2
overall voltage gain?( Assume no loading effect)
(f) Identify the MOSFET amplifier, which gives unity voltage gain. CO2
(g) A bipolar transistor has fT = 4 GHz, βo = 120, and Cμ = 0.08 pF when operated CO3
at ICQ = 0.25 mA. Determine fβ.
(h) Describe the Miller effect. CO3
(i) Why is there not a Miller effect in a common-base circuit? CO3
(j) Classify the basic amplifiers based on the input and output impedances. CO4
(k) What is the type of feedback in the common emitter amplifier with RE? CO4
(l) The closed-loop gain of a feedback amplifier when (A=∞) is Af = 100. What is CO4
the value of β?
UNIT – I
2. (a) Analyze the small signal voltage gain for the common base
amplifier. (6M) CO1
(b) A transistor has a current gain in the range 90 ≤ β ≤ 180 and the
quiescent collector current is in the range 0.8 ≤ ICQ ≤ 1.2 mA. What
is the possible range in the small-signal parameters gm and rπ? (6M) CO1

3. (a) Develop an expression of input and output resistances for the
common emitter amplifier with emitter resistor (RE). (6M) CO1
(b) Consider the circuit shown in figure. The transistor parameters are
β = 100 and VA = 80 V. Determine small-signal voltage gain. (6M) CO1
UNIT – II
4. For the common-source amplifier shown in figure, the transistor parameters are
VT N = −0.8 V, Kn = 2 mA/V2, and λ = 0. The circuit parameters are VDD = 3.3 V and
RL = 10 kΩ. (a) Design the circuit such that IDQ = 0.5 mA and VDSQ = 2 V. (b)
Determine the small-signal voltage gain.

5. (a) Apply small signal analysis to the cascode amplifier using MOSFET
and find the voltage gain. Comment on the results. (6M) CO2
(b) Derive an expression for small signal voltage gain and output
resistance of CD amplifier. Comment on the results. (6M) CO2

UNIT – III
6. (a) Develop an expression for current gain of CE amplifier with resistive (6M) CO3
load using Miller’s theorem?
(b) A common-emitter amplifier circuit as shown in figure has
CC1 = CE = CC2 = 1 µF, RB = 100 kΩ, Rsig = 5 kΩ , gm = 40 mA/V,
rπ = 2.5 kΩ. RC = 8 kΩ and RL = 5 kΩ. Assuming that the three
capacitors do not interact. (i) Find lower 3-dB frequencies fL due to
CC2. (6M) CO3

7. (a) Develop the expressions for Miller capacitance and cutoff frequency (6M) CO3
(fT) of the MOSFET circuit.
(b) Consider an n-channel MOSFET with parameters Kn = 1.5 mA/V2, (6M) CO3
VTN = 0.4 V, λ = 0, Cgd = 10 fF, and Cgs = 50 fF. Assume the
transistor is biased at VGS = 0.8 V. Determine the unity-gain
bandwidth of an MOSFET.

UNIT – IV
8. (a) Elaborate the series and shunt input connections of a feedback (6M) CO4
amplifier.
(b) Consider the feedback system shown in figure. The closed-loop gain
is Af = −80 and the open-loop gain is A = −2 × 104. (a) Determine CO4
the feedback transfer function β. (b) The closed-loop gain is not to
change by more than 0.01 % when the open-loop gain changes.
What is the maximum allowed change in the open-loop gain? (6M)

9. (a) Derive the expressions for input impedance and output impedance of
voltage series feedback amplifier. (6M) CO4
(b) A series-series feedback amplifier employs a basic amplifier with
input and output resistances each of 2 kΩ and gain A = 1000 V/V.
The feedback factor β = 0.1 V/V. Find the gain Af , the input
resistance Rif,and the output resistance Rof of the closed loop
amplifier. (6M) CO4
