ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

1.What lesson/s or topic/s discussed and presented in the midterm did you find very useful to as an
individual and as a student? Why?

For me, I think it will be about how to write essay and also the parts of essay because most of us
are usually confused and find this part difficult. It is useful in a way that we can make our essay better
and more catchy. Mostly because there is a lack of clarity in proposition and paragraph flow and no clear
and cogent introduction, main idea, transitions, and close in the essays we do, that is why there are
times wherein our ideas are mixed up and the topic seems to disappear from the flow. So our topic
regarding the essay and how to do it right has definitely helped us all because for me my skills in doing
this have improved considering that we are often tasked with writing essays and we gained
improvement. I can say that in the essays I submitted, there are clear intro, proposition, interrogative
questions and key words in transitions, and close because I apply what I learned in the lesson about
essay writing and the parts. Moreover, there’s also the definition of culture and the difference between
material and nonmaterial culture, here it is mostly because students do not pay attention to such topics
or they are not interested but for me it is also one of the things I like especially in the examples which
we discussed that can be applied in daily lives and in interacting with other people especially if their
culture is different. There are also the different nonverbal forms of communication and examples such
as Proxemics, Kinesics, Haptics in which it increased our knowledge in this lesson because the simple
action plans we do have their own meanings and specific terms.

2. What activity/ies did you find interesting and enjoyable? Why?

I think the activity which I enjoyed the most and interacted the most is the time we tackled
about culture and beliefs. We all have given examples like the differences between the church of the
Catholics and the INC and the examples that we often wonder. As I see it, the discussion had helped us
talk about culture by providing answers such as why priests of other religions can marry. I also had fun
in the reporting because we have improved our skills when it comes to reporting and I also learned a lot
from my classmates on every topic they reported and the others have fun games which are very
interactive and will definitely catch our attention. Ofcourse, it was a big help for us to initially search for
topics before presenting or discussing it because with this, we have more ideas and background on the
specific topic we are about to tackle.

3. What part of the lesson/discussion did you find the least interesting? Why? What suggestion can you
give to make this part of the lesson enjoyable and informative at the same time.

There is nothing that comes into my mind because for me, every topic is really interesting and if you
listen, you will definitely have a lot of knowledge and mostly you can apply it in your daily life like I said
particularly in the topic of culture. While in reporting, I hope there will be more games to catch the
attention of the other students and of course I’m happy because there are points for those who make an
effort to answer so it means they understand the topics and they are interested in the reports of other
groups.

4. What are your takeaways or learnings from the different presentations and activities? Do you think
these presentations help you better in understanding the topics/lessons presented?

Based on the presentations and activities we had, I think the learning I got is more about the
culture like how to respect other cultures so that they are not offended and also in Hofstede's 6 cultural
dimensions like individualism vs. Collectivism for example in individualistic culture, the member takes
responsibility only for the immediate family, including the wife and children. On the other hand the
Collectivistic society, the member takes responsibility for the extended family, including parents and
grandparent. I was also able to find out the countries with long and short term orientation. Morever,
there’s also the different uses of nonverbal forms of communication like in the reinforcement. For
example, a parent's smile following a desired response from a child, such as saying "thank you,"
reinforces the child's behavior. Also, the genres of language and their examples like the language of
information contain reports, leaflets, instructions, travel guides, encyclopedia. Furthermore, there’s also
the language register and one of them is the formal which is used mostly in sermons, rhetorical
statements and questions, speeches, pronouncements made by judges, announcements. Lastly, the FISH
Formula which stands for Formal, Impersonal, Structured, Hedged which helped me sometimes reduce
my grammar errors. And for me the presentations and reporting are of big help because I learned a lot
and while we were learning we enjoyed it more because other groups have fun and interactive games
and they can explain their topic better.

5. Suggest other activities that will encourage more participation and collaborative learnings in class.

I am hoping to have more interactive games that will help catch the attention of other students
so that everyone can keep up with the lessons and everyone has no missed information. Plus, I would
also like to have variety shows because I also enjoy the role plays during the presentation
