Readings Checklist
Follow these steps from beginning to end in order to nail your readings!

PRE-READ
Find a comfortable space.
Calm your mind via meditation, visualisations, or breath work to get
into ‘receptive mode’.
Ask your spirit guides, angels, and higher self to assist you with the
reading.
Focus on the querant’s name while in ‘receptive mode’ and call upon
their guides and angels to be present.
Grab a notebook and brain dump ALL thoughts, words, feelings,
images, and general impressions that enter your mind at this time.
(Optional) If doing a live reading later in the day, ask the question
‘what do I need to know about this situation?’ and pull 3 cards to help
you set the frame for the upcoming reading while tuned-in.

PRELIMINARIES
If the querant is new to tarot readings, explain how it works and your
process.
Ask them what brings them to you and understand their situation
and goals for the reading.
Form the question based on the info given
Choose your reading style:
Select a spread.
Create your own spread.
Use the no-spread method.
Shuffle the cards thoroughly while thinking of the question and your
chosen spread or sub-questions.
(Optional) Hand the cards to the querant and ask them to shuffle the
cards while thinking of their issue.
Choose your selection method:
Cut the cards into 3 piles and ask the querant to choose one. Put
it back together with chosen pile at the top and deal the cards.
Ask the querant to make 3 piles, and put it back together in any
order. Then you deal the cards.

INTERPRET INDIVIDUAL CARDS
Go through each card in the spread and interpret based on a
combination of:
Card meaning.
Position in the spread.
Any images, thoughts, feelings, or impressions that enter your
mind as you look at the card.
What is going on within the scene.
Where your eye is first drawn to in the image.
Which character in the scene are you drawn to? This is the
perspective from which to interpret the card.
The overall mood of the scene.

LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE

How many of each suit, majors, and courts are there?
Are there any repeating numbers?
Are the numbers rising or falling? Are they large or small numbers?
Do any court card ranks show up more than once?
Look at the balance of the elements. Do they complement or
oppose each other?
Are the figures in the cards facing each other in agreement, or away
from each other in disagreement?
Do the figures have their eyes open or closed?
Are the figures moving or standing still?
Are the figures facing forward, to the right, or backward, to the left?
Does it look like one card is pointing to another?
Are there any features (animals, objects, etc) that appear in multiple
cards?
Are there any colours that dominate?

WRAP IT UP
Based on everything, is there an overall theme or message?
Form a conclusion that answers the original question.
Answer any follow up questions.
Leave the querant with a piece of advice to leave on a positive note.

Your Toolkit
TAROT DECK

Choose a deck that you most resonate with. I recommend

the Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot because not only are the
images rich and immersive but it is fairly close to the
Rider-Waite system as well making it easier to interpret
than non-traditional decks.

TAROT BAG OR BOX

There are many beautiful tarot bags and boxes available

on Etsy. Get the one you like but make sure there is
enough space to store your deck, pendulum, and crystals
inside.

CRYSTALS

I like to keep a small selenite crystal inside my tarot bag

together with my cards to keep the energy high. You may
choose to keep only one or a mix of crystals as per your
need.

A PENDULUM

I always keep a pendulum handy so that I can easily

answer yes/no, timing, clarification, and any kind of
closed questions quickly and easily using the best tool for
the job. I recommend getting a brass one.

SAGE

Make sure you have some sage around which you can
burn to cleanse your deck. When the energy feels
‘heavy’ then it’s time for a cleanse. If many people are
touching your deck you will need to cleanse it more often.
