LE CORBUSIER WORK
IN INDIA
• Villa Shodan by Le Corbusier located in
Ahmedabad is an light, open, independent
concrete structure.
• The impact of it on me was that it made me
subconsciously realised the fact that the
need of wall and window can be minimised
fully.
• The basic five principles of Corbusier from
Domino model are clearly experienced in
this project and they are :
1. Pilotis 2. Free Floor Plan 3. Roof Garden
4. Horizontal Window 5. Free Façade
• As this structure was designed by him later
in his career we can experience the
culmination of all his knowledge of spaces.
• Structure looks like an upgraded version of
Villa Savoye with building features designed
with knowledge of Indian context.
• The experience of space will connect one to
the nature directly.
• Flow of breeze throughout the structure
and varying volume of spaces make sit
more lively.
Designing with this • Along with concrete if fair amount of Brick
principle will make one materials would also have been used the it
better understand on would have added more contrast to the
how to respond to the building.
• The interiors are lit due to maximum
site context to the
daytime sunlight and make user feel active.
fullest.
