WRITTEN WORK 8

Research Topic
The effectiveness of using coffee grounds as organic fertilizers for three different crops (rice,
corn, wheat). The researchers, or freshmen agriculture students, used four cups of coffee mixed
with 5 gallons of water and applied it to plants once every two weeks. The same goes for the
two commercialized fertilizers. The students made sure that all set ups were planted in the
same type of soil and were watered equally every day. The fertilizers were applied for one
month. The height of the plants was measured and tabulated to see which one was more
effective as an organic fertilizer.

Research Problem
The study aimed to test the effects of using coffee grounds as organic fertilizers on three
different crops (rice, corn, and wheat) as compared to two commercially available fertilizers in
the group of freshmen agriculture students.

Null and Alternative Hypothesis

 Null: Using coffee grounds as fertilizers to the three different crops (rice, corn, and
wheat) is more effective compared to two commercially available fertilizers.
 Alternative: Using coffee grounds as fertilizers to the three different crops (rice, corn,
and wheat) is not effective compared to two commercially available fertilizers.
