Minister of State Labour & Employment
(Independent Charge)
Government of India
Message
I take this opportunity to wish a very happy and prosperous New Year 2019 to the entire
workforce of the country. The top most priority of my Ministry is to ensure social security and
well being of the workforce who form the backbone of the country and contribute to the overall
economic development of the Nation.
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation, a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour &
Employment is the nodal agency for providing comprehensive social security cover to the
workforce coming under the ambit of ESI Act, 1948. Besides providing medical care and a
range of cash benefits in exigencies related to employment injury, sickness, death etc., ESIC is
ensuring the well being of about 3.43 crore ESIC insured persons and over 13.32 crore family
members of Insured Persons. During the last 66 years, ESIC has grown into a mammoth
organization and is one of the best social security organizations in the country. From time to
time, ESIC is launching new initiatives to empower the workforce. All efforts are being taken by
my Ministry and ESIC to extend coverage of ESI Scheme to all the districts of the country,
thereby realizing the vision of ''Swasth and Samridh Shramik".
I once again wish all a very happy and prosperous New Year.

At the outset, I wish all a very happy and prosperous New Year.
It is heartening to mention that the year 2018 was very eventful and productive for ESIC
as many new initiatives were launched with a view to provide better delivery of services
and empower the Insured Persons. Major achievements included increase in the
number of Insured Persons and employers, coverage of ESI Scheme in 529 districts in
34 States and Union Territories, setting up of DCBOs in each district of the country in a
phased manner, launching of “Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna”, revision in the eligibility
conditions for super specialty treatment to the Insured Persons and members of their
family, setting up of new hospitals and renovation and modernization of existing
hospitals, strengthening of infrastructure of hospitals and dispensaries, expanding the
network of secondary and primary medical centers, implementation of Modified
Insurance Medical Practitioner (IMP) Scheme, 2018 etc. to name a few.
Today, ESIC has achieved a unique position in the social security sector in the country.
With dedicated efforts, determination and perseverance, ESIC has been able to
provide social security cover to millions of workers and making the service delivery
system under ESI Scheme more efficient and progressive. By guaranteeing quality
medical care and a host of cash benefits, ESI Scheme is helping to keep India's
workforce healthy, happy and productive thereby contributing to the overall economic
development of the country
The motto of ESIC is to ensure comprehensive social security cover to the workforce of
the country covered under ESI Act and with this aim ESIC is moving ahead in the New
Year to bring more transformation in its functioning.
A very happy New Year to all of you!
