Stormwater recycling

Roof area is aproximetly 1700 m2. Roof is divided in two areas with separate outflow pipelines. One
outflow is located in North part of the building (shown on the photo below)

Roof area that is led to this outflow is around 1200 m 2.

Rest of the roof rainwater is led to second outflow located in southwest part of the building (shown
on the photo below)
Needs for sanitary water of new DS3 building are 7.2 m3/day. Of that on sanitary devices (flushers)
needs are abut 2 m3/day.

We assume that the volume of tank for stormwater tank must hold up water for about one month of
sanitary needs.

So total volume of Stormwater tank would be:

V= 2 m3/day x 30 days= 60 m3.

Ammount of rain that is needed per month to fill up the tank is:

a) Variant A-Tank is filled with just one roof rainwater outflow

Roof area A=1200 m2
Tank volume V= 60 m3
Rain quantity h= V/A=60/1200=0,05 m= 50 mm

b) Variant B-Tank is filled with two roof rainwater outflow (this include redesigning the
current roofrainwater system, and stormwater drainage system outside of the DS3
building)
Roof area A=1700 m2
Tank volume V= 60 m3
Rain quantity h= V/A=60/1700=0,035 m= 35 mm

Actual data of rain quantities on the DS3 location are given by Croatian National Hydrometeorogical
Institute. (https://meteo.hr/klima_e.php?section=klima_podaci&param=k2_1)

In the photos below are shown values of rain quantities given by last five years for DS3 location.
Location Šibice is taken into account as the location closest to the DS3 location.

CONCLUSION:

As shown in rainfall data taken from Croatian National Hydrometeorogical Institute we can see
that there are at least two months in year where we won’t have enough rainwater to fill the tank.
Months that are circled in red haven’t got enough rainwater to fill the tank (including variant A and
variant B).
Months that are circled in green won’t have enough rainwater to fill the tank in variant B (the tank if
filled from just one outflow of roof rainwater).

In months when we don’t have enough rainwater tank would need to be filled with potable water to
ensure enough water quantities.

VARIANT A- Tank is filled with just one roof rainwater outflow

If the tank is filled from one outflow we most likely have four months per year when the rain
quantities won’t be enough to fill the tank, and the tank would need to be filled separately.
In this variant solution we must predict position of new rainwater tank with pumps, and new
pipeline through building.
Smaller modification must be included for redesigning Stormwater collector 4.

VARIANT B- Tank is filled with two roof rainwater outflow

If the tank is filled from two outflows we will most likely have only 2 months per year when the rain
quantities won’t be enough to fill the tank, and the tank would need to be filled separately.

In this variant solution we must predict position of new rainwater tank with pumps, and new
pipeline through building.

Also in this solution we must redesign big part of roof rainwater system.

Smaller modification must be included for redesigning Stormwater collector 4.
