Hello good afternoon today me and my group: matias madariaga and jordan casallas

we will talk about the case of the nahueltoro jackal.

Jorge del Carmen Valenzuela Torres (San Fabián de Alico, 1922-Chillán, April 30,
1963) was a Chilean peasant who committed one of the most memorable murders in
the country. Although he refers to himself in different ways, his criminal behavior has
caused public opinion to nickname him "Chacal de Nahueltoro". Since he was fired
in the nearby town of Cachapur, he went to Coiwaco to look for work, but one night
he stayed with a family in the town of Nahueltoro, where he was passing. Looking for
a partner, he met Rosa Rivas, a thirty-eight-year-old widow, cook at the Moticura
farm and mother of five children. Since the owner of the farm did not like the
woman's association with Jorge Valenzuela because of her alcoholism, he kicked
her out of the farm.
The lady and Valenzuela decide to live on La Isla, a place near the Ñuble River. On
the afternoon of Saturday, August twenty, one thousand nine hundred sixty-nine,
Valenzuela and Rivas argued over the impossibility of the woman receiving her
widow's pension due to bureaucratic problems. Frustrated without money to continue
drinking, Valenzuela took a sickle and murdered the woman.
The circumstances surrounding Valenzuela's murder of her children are not fully
understood, although it is known that one of Rivas's daughters was hanged bare-
handed by Valenzuela and the family's baby was trampled to death. After the
murder, Valenzuela covered the victim's body with stones and fled. A few days after
the event, Luis Denmark, owner of the Chacayal farm, located the bodies of the six
victims and notified the police.
A month later, the jackal was discovered in the town of General Cruz in the Biobío
region, as a guest at the inn set up by Oriol Jara Melo and his brother-in-law Alfredo
Valenzuela Mora. The latter had seen the Jackal in the aforementioned city, and one
night at the "Three Musketeers" inn he invited him, pretending to be drunk, for a
drink. At that moment, Jara used a sack to cover the jackal and then reduce it to the
ground. Later, Valenzuela and Jara went to the Pemuco police to hand over the
jackal. When consulted at the time, Valenzuela and Jara indicated that it was the
carabineros who captured the "jackal" of Nahueltoro. After 32 months in the Chillán
prison and as a result he was sentenced to death by the Chilean gendarmerie. The
execution of Jorge del Carmen is one of the most famous events in Chilean history.
About Valenzuela's death sentence arose a sharp controversy that was formed in
Chilean society, that the jackal would be reincorporated into society or if they killed
him. Eloy Parra, a Catholic priest who accompanied Valenzuela until his death, was
his staunch protector and the jackal apologized to then President Jorge Alessandri,
but to no avail. Before his death, Valenzuela had joined the Catholic religion, learned
to work with the guitar and had repented of his crimes, alleging that deep down,
given his precarious circumstances, he never had the necessary tools to carry out
