Shova Rani Nursing College

Shova Rani Nursing College was established on 2005 with a capacity of 50

student intake offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, approved by The Indian
Nursing Council, New Delhi and affiliated to West Bengal University of Health
Sciences, now the capacity of Student intake enhanced, it is 80. The Post
Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme started on September 2020, approved by
The Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and affiliated to West Bengal
University of Health Sciences with a capacity of 30 students. Our students
are equipped with comprehensive training of international standards and
they are continuously thriving towards competency based nursing education
and skill development. At present the College is successfully running full
fledged with 305 students.

Founder Chairman:- The KPC Group is a worldwide conglomerate- founded by

Mr. Kali Pradip Chaudhuri.

Dr. Chaudhuri is recognized worldwide as a visionary who has successfully

integrated modern medical science with state-of-the art technology, tools
and today’s Information Technology enabled management techniques to
create a unique business model in the healthcare industry.

A highly successful physician/entrepreneur with immaculate credentials, Dr.

Chaudhuri has practiced in four major Continents and in countries like USA,
Canada, UK & South-East Asia. Operating from his base in Southern
California, Dr. Chaudhuri has implemented his service model to create a
highly successful portfolio of Medical/ Healthcare operation that serves over
700,000 people world-wide.

A constant workaholic, also known as the “perpetual fountain of energy” to

his friends and colleagues, Dr. Chaudhuri derives the inspiration to build his

Hemet, California with his wife Sunanada, and children, Kali Priyo and
Sumanta.

Dr. Chaudhuri along with his extraordinary clinical skills had always been
keen to uplift the standard of medical and nursing education in our country.
Hence he was the driving force to establish the KPC medical College and
Hospital as one of the leading private medical and nursing colleges in the
state of West Bengal.

Dr. Chaudhuri is a practicing Orthopedic surgeon since 1892 and has been
certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. In addition to his
immaculate track record as a highly respected orthopedic surgeon, Dr.

Leadership:-

The Society:- KPC Medical College and Hospital, Jadavpur is a society

registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1961, and is co-founded by
Dr. Kali Pradip Chaudhuri and the Government of West Bengal.

The main objective of the Society is to impart medical education by running,

establishing, constructing Medical colleges and Institutions either directly or
indirectly.

The Board of the founding members of the Society includes Dr. Kali Pradip
Chaudhury, his family members, friends, associates and representatives of
the Government of West Bengal.

Shova Rani Nursing College has been set up by Dr. K.P. Chaudhuri, the
Chairman of KPC Group in memory of his late mother Shova Rani Chaudhuri.

The Noble Mission of this institute is to create best nursing professionals

equipped with finest skill with a deep commitment towards service to
humanity. Aim is to enrich the quality of life of patients, through the efficient
and responsible application of knowledge, skills and technology in a caring
and nurturing environment with the greatest respect for human dignity and
life.

Our institution started its journey in 2005 with a capacity of 50 intake

offering B.Sc. Nursing, approved by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, West
Bengal Nursing Council, Kolkata & affiliated to The West Bengal University of
Health sciences. Integrated with our International nurse training programme,
our students are equipped with comprehensive training of international
standards. Our institution has geared up to achieve prominence as an

Selection Criteria:-
1. Minimum educational qualification is passed in Higher Secondary
School Certificate Examination, Senior School Certificate Examination,
Pre-degree Examination or an equivalent with 12 years schooling with
Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English with 50% in each subject as
well as 50% in aggregate.
2. Admission is based on the merit list of the Entrance Examination:
JENPAUH and the candidate are required to go through counseling
procedure.
3. The Candidates will have to undergo a Medical Check-up and produce
a fitness certificate from our approved Intuition/ Registered Medical
Practitioner,
4. The Candidate should possess good health and moral character.

Facilities:-
Class Room with state of the art infrastructure:
There are six classrooms to accommodate students admitted in each class.
The rooms are well ventilate with proper lighting system, built-in and
portable black/green boards, equipped with Slide Projector, Overhead
Projector, Computers and television with CD, DVD player & LCD Projector.

Library:-
Comfortable seating arrangements for 1/3 of the total number of students
and staffs. Proper lighting, heating and cooling arrangements depending on
the climate. Sufficient number of cupboards, racks for proper storing of
books, magazines etc. We have stock of up to date reference books,
textbooks, magazines, national and international nursing & medical journals.
The library is equipped with audio visual aids along with Internet facilities.

Laboratories:
It consists of
Nursing Practice laboratory: to accommodate six beds with modern chase
Doll & CPR mannequin. It is fully equipped with built-in cupboards,
washbasins with running water supply, adequate furniture items like tables
and chairs, electric fittings etc. The laboratories are well equipped to practice
skill demonstration sessions

Nutrition Laboratory: it has facilities for imparting basic knowledge about

food and for practice in cooking food for the healthy as well as for the sick,
will have furniture like work benches, cooking stoves, gas connection,
fittings, wash basins with running water supply, cooking utensils, Micro-oven
racks/shelves, refrigerators, pressure cookers, mixer grinder and cupboards
and containers for storage of food items.
Community Nursing & Obstetrics laboratory: will have all articles required for
practicing nursing procedures in a community set up.

CLINICAL FIELD:- The College is affiliated to SSKM Hospital, a super

specialty Govt. Institution of Kolkata with 1425 sanctioned beds & well
equipped operation theaters with advanced technology & CRSS Hospital
Kolkata, MR Bangur Hospital, Tollygunge other than our own parent hospital
– KPC Medical College & Hospital.
For community health nursing Subhas Gram Rural Hospital, Sonarpur as rural
experience & Nonadanga with urban community field to provide practical
experience.

Transportation facilities:-
The college provides transportation facilities for taking students to the
attached hospitals as well rural training centres (community Nursing),
escorted by our teaching staff.

Hostel facilities:-
Hostel facilities will be provided for the students, Each room will
accommodate three students. There are common dinning, kitchen and
recreation room. A full time warden is engaged to look after the internal
administration and day to day discipline of the hostel. Hostel charges once
paid are neither refundable nor transferable if a student leaves the hostel
before completion of the course. No student will stay out of the hostel at
night without prior permission of the warden and written approval of the
local guardian. The hostel authorities will not be responsible for loss of any
valuable personal belongings or money. Penalty charges will be imposed if
any inmate violates the hostel rules or found guilty of any indiscipline or
misconduct. The hostel fees will be prescribed by the society and given
information to the Principal. Any case of illness shall immediately be notified
to the warden. Students will be required to sign a declaration agreeing to
abide by the rules and regulations of the hostel before getting admission.
Decision of the Warden and Principal regarding any matter in the hostel will
be binding on the students, A well-equipped canteen is provided to cater
needs of all.

Extra Curricular activities

Effort will be made to identify talents and inclinations for constructive
development. These include music, plays, dance and extra-curricular
activities such as elocution, debating, quiz, painting, drawing, karate, yoga,
athletics and sports.
The Faculty
The Principal of Shova Rani Nursing College is Mrs. Shikha Lahiri, who is
having more than 25 years of teaching experience in nursing. The other
Professors and tutors have long years of experience in nursing education.

Extensive Learning
Libraries are the soul of every institution of higher learning. The pursuance of
excellence is a worthy goal for any student, scholar or academic. Easy
availability of printed literature in the form of national and international
journals, volumes, books and monographs create the basic necessary
environment for the fulfillment of the above objectives.
The Shova Rani Nursing College has the facility of a library with easy and
open access to books and journals. There are hundreds of volumes on
specified subjects published in India and aboard. Nursing Journals are also
subscribed, the author and Subject index have been computerized and
availability of CD ROMS further strengthens the facilities for archival
research. Photocopying and reprography are some of the other services.

Student Counseling
The college has set-up a Board of Counselors of faculty members each of
whom are designated in charge of a group of students.
The counselors would guide the students in all matters including personal
matters. The counselors will personally oversee the overall progress of their
students in their charge. They will work in co-ordination with the
parents/guardians in an endeavor to bring out the best in the students.
