„ ApplyingforStudentVisa(D2)

AllinternationalstudentsarerequiredtoobtainD2(study)visasfortheirstudyatAjou. 

InordertoobtainaD2visa,visitthenearestKoreanEmbassyinyourcountrywiththe
CertificateofAdmission,InvitationLetterandCertificateofScholarship(ifapplicable). 
Asrequireddocumentscanvaryforeachcountry,checktherequireddocumentsinadvance
withtheKoreanEmbassy.Chinesestudentswillneedextradocuments(refertowebpageat
link). 

PleasenotethatyouneedtosigntheCertificateofAdmissionissuedbyAjouUniversitybefore
submitting it to the embassy. If you have already obtained another type of visa, you must
changeittoD2.

„ DormitoryApplication  

TheapplicationwillbeavailableonlineatAjouwebsite:http://edorm.ajou.ac.kr

TheapplicationperiodisfromJanuary2–16,2015andyouwillneedtoinputyouremailand
applicationID,whichistheAjoustudentIDnumber,tocompletetheapplication. 

YourAjoustudentIDnumberisprovidedintheLetterofInvitation. 

Please note that housing applications after the application period will not be accepted, and
that we cannot guarantee placement. The final list for the spring room assignment will be
postedontheofficialdormitorywebsiteinJanuary27,2015.

UniversitydormitorywillopenonFebruary24,2015fornewcomingstudentsfortheSpring
2015semester.PleasesetyourflightscheduletoarriveafterFebruary24.Unfortunately,itis
notpossibletomoveintothedormitorybeforethedormitoryopeningdate. 

If a student moves out of the dormitory early, the student is responsible for early moveout
penaltyfines.

„ Meals&Food   

Studentscanbuyvarioustypesofmealsonandoffcampus,andalsocooksomeinstantsnacks
inthesharedkitchenofthedormitory.Studentsusuallyusethekitchentocooknoodles,toast,
andsmallsnacksortokeeptheirownfoodinthecommunalrefrigerator.Normalmealprices
rangefrom3,500wonto5,000won(approx.US$3~5)permeal.


„ CourseRegistration 

CourseregistrationwillbeavailableonlineonFeb1617,2015. 
ThetentativecourselistwillbeannouncedonourwebsiteinearlyJanuary,andthefinallist
willbeuploadedinearlyFebruary. 

Meanwhile,youmayreferthecourselistofferedinthe2014academicyearatourwebsiteas
everysemester,similarcoursesareoffered.

„ HealthandMedicalClearanceForm 

Allstudentshavebeenrequestedtosubmitthehealthandmedicalclearanceformwiththeir
onlineapplicationsaspartoftherequireddocuments. 

Please note that according to government regulation, students from certain designated
countrieswillneedtogetretestedfortuberculosisatthedistrictpublichealthcenterinKorea
uponarrival. 

The designated countries are: China, Sri Lanka, Russia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Vietnam, India,
Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, and
Malaysia.

More detailed information will be announced at orientation, but students from the above
countriesshouldbeawareofthisnecessaryprocessuponarrival.

Airportpickupservice

Airportpickupserviceisavailableonlyforstudentswhoapplyforitinadvance.Airportpickup
service is available for two days (Feb 24 and 25, 2015) prior to orientation only at Incheon
InternationalAirport.

„ HealthInsurancePolicyatAjou

AllInternationalstudentsstudyingatAjouUniversityarerequiredtopurchasehealthinsurance.
The insurance must cover the full study period, from the date of arrival to the date of
departure.

Students can purchase health insurance from their home countries, or they can purchase it
through the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Ajou. As OIA has a contract with an
insurance provider, it is recommended that you purchase insurance through the OIA at the
discountedprice. 

If you plan to purchase the insurance at Ajou University, you are required to apply online at
www.foreigninsurance.kr.Afteronlineapplication,youneedtopaytheinsurancefeedirectly
totheinsurancecompanyuponarrivalatAjou,anddetailedinformationwillbegivenatthe
orientation. 

We ask that students submit the copy of the insurance contract within the first week of the
semester. If a student does not submit a copy of the health insurance, the issuance of
documentssuchastranscripts,CertificateofEnrollment,etc.,willberestricted.

RequirementforInternationalStudents 


1. EligibilitytoMoveIn

a. Excludingthosewhowereonacademicprobationintheprevioussemester
b. Excludingthosewhoweregiven30points’penaltiesandexpelledfromthedormitory
c. Excludingresearchstudents

2. SelectionCriteria
A. Theresidentselectionshalltakeplaceeverysemester. 
B. Incomingstudentswillbegivenpriority.
C. Selectioncriteriaforcurrentlyregisteredstudents
a. Currentlyregisteredstudentswillbeselectedafterthespotsforincoming
studentsarefilled.
b. Thesameselectioncriteriawillbeappliedtocurrentlyregisteredstudentsas
follows.(GPA:60percent;basicpoints:30percent;servicepoints:10percent)
c. If multiple students with same GPA’s and credits compete for one vacancy,
the date ofbirth(theyoungestpersonwillbegivenpriority)willbetakeninto
consideration.
d. Currently registered students must move out of their rooms prior to the
beginning of thesemesterifnotselected.Unlessselectedstudentsmakefull
paymentbythedeadline,thevacancieswillbegiventothosenextinlineonthe
waitinglist.

3. RoomAssignmentGuidelines
A. R oomassignmentwillbehandledbytheOfficeofStudentHousing&Residencewithfull
considerationofapplicants’requests.
B. Therequestperiodforroomchangeswillbethefirstweekofeachsemester. No
changeisallowedaftertheperiod.
C. Students suffering from sleep disorders (snoring, teeth grinding, etc.) serious enough
todisturbroommatescannotbeaccepted
D. Studentscanchoosefromthetwotypesofrooms:twobedroomsandfourbedrooms.
However,ifsupplyisshort,theOfficeofStudentHousing&Residencemayrandomly
assignthe rooms. (As for incoming students, rooms will be allocated on a firstcome
firstservedbasis.Asforregisteredstudents,roomswillbeallocatedinaccordancewith
GPA.)
E. Students will be categorizedinto groups ofUndergraduate, Graduate School,Exchange
Student,etc.whenallocatingtherooms

HousingAgreement  

AllresidentsshouldabidebytherulesandregulationsoftheAjouUniversityDormitory.Theserules
and regulations have been set forth for the purpose of promoting the convenience, security and
welfareoftheresidentsofourdormitory,andtoprotectthedormitory’spropertyfrommisuseand
abuse.Anyviolationsagainsttherulesandregulationswillresultinpenaltiesasfollows.

InsurancePolicyatAjouUniversity

All International students studying at Ajou University are required to purchase health
insurancetoprotectthemfromunexpectedhealthcareexpensesintheeventofanaccident,
aswellastomanagetheirhealthwhilestayinginKorea.Also,allinternationalstudentsare
requiredtobeenrolledinaninsuranceplaninlinewiththeKoreangovernment’spolicyof
mandatory health insurance for international students. The insurance must cover the full
study period, from the date of arrival to the date of departure. Please note that it is the
student’s responsibility to have the insurance, and the student is also responsible for any
issuethatmaybeariseifhe/sheisnotinsured.

Studentscanpurchasehealthinsurancefromtheirhomecountries,ortheycanpurchaseit
through the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Ajou. Ajou University has made an
arrangement with “Seimnuri” Insurance Company so that students can quickly and
conveniently receive health insurance benefits when they receive medical attention at
designatedmedicalfacilities. 

IfyouplantopurchasetheinsuranceatAjouUniversity,youarerequiredtoapplyonlineat
www.foreigninsurance.kr. After online application, you need to pay the insurance fee
directlytotheinsurancecompany.Theinsurancecompanywillbepresentattheorientation
andyoumaydirectlypayfortheinsuranceonthedate. 

Weaskthatstudentssubmitthecopyoftheinsurancecontractwithinthefirstweekofthe
semester. If a student does not submit a copy of the health insurance, the issuance of
documents such as transcripts, Certificate of Enrollment, various verification and
participatinginEclasseswillberestricted.
