TOPIC: JOB IN THE FUTURE

Question 1: What would you like to do in the future?

I have always wanted to become a Human Resources Management for an Interna-

tional Company. Protecting and developing human potential is what I find intriguing
and fascinating.

Question 2: What do you like about this job? What company you would like to
work for?

I'd probably enjoy working and being trained in such a flexible and dynamic environ-
ment. I would like to help people to recognize their talent and let them promote their
ability reasonably. I believe that managing a person is not an easy thing. I'd say Niso
is the company that I'd love to work for.

Question 3: What factors and characteristics you need to have to become a Hu-
man Resources Management?

I need 3 things: a qualification of BA, English qualification and working experience

are indispensable. If we can speak 2 languages, it will be ours advantage.

Human Resources Management is a person who is very good at dealing with the
problem, handle with adversity efficiently also. The patient is the most important fac-
tor to become a Human Resources Management. So, I have to improve myself at
those parts too.

Question 4: What are you going to do to pursue your job?

Building a solid and close-knit staff is my dream and I'm studying so hard to make it
come true. I have to non-stop learn from my senior guidance to improve my weak-
nesses day by day.

TOPIC: POLLUTION

Water is one of the most important elements on Earth when it comes to sustaining
life. Unfortunately, it is also extremely susceptible to pollution. There are many
causes of water pollution. Below, we will focus on three of the major ways that water
can become polluted:

+ Industrial Waste:

Caused: Many industrial sites produce waste in the form of toxic chemicals and pol-
lutants. When industrial waste is not treated properly ( or worse, not treated at all ).
Effect: Can very easily pollute the freshwater systems that it comes into contact with.

+ Marine Dumping:

Caused: The process of marine dumping is exactly what it sounds like, dumping
garbage into the waters of the ocean. It might seem crazy, but household garbage is
still collected and dumped into oceans by many countries across the world.

Effect: Most of these items can take anywhere from 2 to 200 years to decompose
completely.

+ Sewage and Wastewater:

Caused: Harmful chemicals, bacteria, and pathogens can be found in sewage and
wastewater even when it's been treated. Sewage and wastewater from each household
are released into the sea with fresh water.

Effect: The pathogens and bacteria found in that wastewater breed disease, and there-
fore are a cause of health-related issues in humans and animals alike.

-> METHOD:

+ Don't flush trash.

+ Plastic waste reduction instead of using Steel Vacuum Mugs, Paper straws, paper
boxes,...

+ Properly dispose of chemical cleaners, oils, and non-biodegradable items to keep

them from ending up down the drain.

TOPIC: GIFT EXCHANGE

Question 1: What occasion do you usually give gifts?

I would like to give presents to my beloved ones on their special days such as: their
birthday, their anniversary or some special occasions like: Tet holiday, Christmas,...
Because I suppose those have sentimental value which will make their day more
meaningful.

Question 2: What is the meaning of gift-giving?

On certain occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, dinner parties, it's customary to

give gifts. However, they sometimes send gifts to express their affection, gratitude, or
even to ask for forgiveness.
Question 3: What kinds of gifts are popular in your country?

I think it depends on what ages you are talking about. The young might have a fancy
for tangible items such as teddy bears, jewelry, souvenirs, or state-of-the-art gadgets.
However, the elderly prefer intangible gifts, which are your time and your attention.

Question 4: Gift-giving should not be encouraged

Gift-giving represents a lovely gesture and is to be appreciated. I personally support

these views. However, a gift when given to the wrong person or when forced on
someone becomes a burden and a waste. I think giving is a gift is a wonderful behav-
ior that needs to be nurtured and promoted, not because of the value of the gift, but
for the spiritual and emotional meaning, it holds in the lives of people.

TOPIC: VOLUNTEERISM

Question 1: Would you like to work as a volunteer?

If I was a child. The answer is yes, for sure. I am an animal person. I have two dogs
at home. I adapt them from an animal rescue shelter. To be honest, I used to dream of
working as an animal rescuer. And now I don't think I can chase this dream. If I fol-
lowed this path, what would I do when I run out of money. This job can't earn money.

Question 2: What is volunteer screening?

Volunteer screening is the process in which people are screened or judged so that
they can be given work that best fits their personality.

Question 3: Why do you think people volunteer?

I believe there could be several reasons for people volunteering. Some people volun-
teer because they feel for the cause and want to do something about it. There are
some who volunteer because volunteering teaches you a lot. You learn teamwork,
leadership, patience, organizing things and so much more.

Question 4: What could you do to help if you had no money?

Helping has nothing to do with money. Maybe I cannot give someone the money but
I can surely give what I have, like my knowledge, my experience, the things that I
have learnt. It is great to be able to share your knowledge and for the one who re-
ceives it, it is surely a pure joy.

Question 5: What is volunteer work?

Volunteer work is the one that you do by your choice. The one which you do for free,
out of your own wish. Oftentimes, this is the work where you are paid very little or
not at all paid. However, one gets to learn a lot through volunteer work. Let us today,
have a look at some of the questions related to volunteer work.

TOPIC: SOLUTIONS TO THE CLIMATE CHANGE

I guess there's a variety of ways to keep our environment clean and green. The first
thing I usually do is carpooling when I go to work. Say no with water bottles. What's
more, I always take a brisk shower, not a leisurely bath, to save water. I'll try to cut
down on beef because Cows emit Methane. Surprisingly, 1 kg of Methane makes the
Earth 23 times warmer than 1 kg of CO2. Moreover, individuals need to have a better
understanding of the devastating consequences of global warming, this encourage
someone to change attitudes and behavior on a daily basis. Last but not least, if peo-
ple purchase goods with minimal packaging, use energy-efficient products or plant
more trees, this can reduce waste and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which in
turn save the Earth.

TOPIC: SAVING FOR A RAINY DAY

Question 1: The meaning of saving for a rainy day

It means you have a saving for an emergency case. Someday you will need a lot of
money for that case. It could be for such a thing that you extremely love, or for the
insurance policy, or the university fee. If you are not saving it now, you will not have
the ability to afford it when you need it.

Question 2: Is saving for a rainy day necessary?

I think all the saving is necessary and bring the specific benefit for the saver. Imagine
that when you are in exactly an emergency situation, unfortunately, you wouldn't
have enough money. You are more in trouble. For example, I might have an accident
and I need a lot of money for the hospital's fee. If I don't have my saving, it could be
worse.

Question 3: How can I get saving for my rainy day?

There are lots of ways to save money. I can work for a part-time job and save it each
month by my salary. Or I can draw a little from my income every month. Further, I
can have a scholarship and put it in my bank account. Another way is that I can invest
my money in electronic currency and have an interest in saving.

TOPIC: LEARNING ENGLISH OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Question 1: Ways to study English?

There are several ways to study English outside the classroom

- Practice speaking by talking with friends or native speakers.
- Studying online with free/fee courses.
- Presentation in English before class.
- Reading newspaper or magazine in English or listening, watching TEDx on
Youtube…
- Watching movie without subtitles or listening to the lyrics of a song.
- Writing letters for friends or write diaries in English.
- Learn by heart with vocabulary.
- Etc…

Question 2: Describe more some ways you like the most?

Many experts have shown that learning English by yourself improve your English
skill much more than you study at school. Many people choose to reading newspa-
pers or magazines in English or watching the BBC without subtitles. They even
watch movies on Netflix with English subtitles to improve their reading and listening
skills. One of the most effective ways to study vocabulary is learning by heart and
make a sentence with that word. It helps you to remember the word faster and know
how to use it or what context you should use.

Question 3: Choose one way and explain why you choose that way. It can help
you to improve which skill?

The most efficient ways for me are talking with my friend and watching films on Net-
flix. I see that a lot of Vietnamese afraid to say something in English when they are
asked. They are afraid of pronouncing wrong or wrong grammar or even lack a natu-
ral accent. I encourage my friend to speak English with me so we can both correct
each other. It also helps me to improve my keen ears with an English accent and word
recognization.
Another way that pushes my love for English is watching movies without subtitles on
Netflix. The interesting about that way is I can clearly know how and when using the
word in the right context that I hardly know when studying at school. It makes my
English accent much more natural and speaking less formal.

TOPIC: LIFESTYLES

Question 1: What is your lifestyle?

I live simply. I’m happy with what I have like the best family, modest living…, hav-
ing a meaning full relationship with loved ones, not having jealously, anger sort of
emotions, not comparing myself with others. I just enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Every day I try my best to make my dream comes true.

Question 2: Do you think having a simple lifestyle is a good life?

A good life is a life that you find rewarding. Because different people are different,
different people find different kinds of lives rewarding. A simple life might be good.
It also might be very bad indeed. You can't look at how simple life is and, just based
on that, determine if it's good or not. For example, I have a friend and she has an ex-
traordinary complex life, and it suits her; She finds her life absolutely amazing, and
she is a very happy person. Other people might look at her life and see nothing but
chaos but she enjoys it and it’s fine.

Question 3: Is it difficult to live a simple life in today's world?

I believe yes! When people hear about simplifying life, they may think it means mov-
ing into a home in the countryside and they raise fish and grow vegetables. But that is
not necessarily a simpler life. For I relate being simple is a state of mind. Nothing
changes materialistically but, when our attitude changes and when we have clarity in
our thoughts, we start to live simple.

TOPIC: MONEY

Money can bring happiness:

When you have the money you can do everything you like. And the most basic thing
is it can provide your basic needs, such as food, accommodation. I mean there are im-
portant factors to have a happy life.

Money can help you to strengthen your bonds. I agree that money cannot buy family,
friends or lover but it can help your relationship much better. For example, with
money you can buy gifts for them, you can travel, hang out with them that also helps
you build a strong bond with them.

With money, you can have a healthy lifestyle. You can eat clean food, go to the gym,
nowadays you need to pay a lot of money to go to the gym right? Or if you want to
protect the environment you can use alternative energy instead of traditional energy.
And when you got a healthy lifestyle I’m sure that you can live happily the whole
life.

One important thing is that you will have no worries about any form of debt if you
have money. Many people around me they are don’t have much money so when some
bad things happen they have to borrow money from their friends, or from the bank.
After that, they will live in worry that how to return all of the amount of this money
for the other. And I guess they don’t feel happy at all. So, with money, you can live
more comfortably, conveniently, and also happier. So money can bring to us much
happiness.

Money can not bring happiness:

There are many reasons why that I told you money can not bring happiness to us, at
least for me.

The first one that I want to tell you that more stuff, more work. Let me explain more.
The more stuff you own the more work it takes to take care of it. For example, many
girls are very interested in skincare and makeup. So they invest this a lot. They buy
many skincare, cosmetics. But the skincare and makeup also have many single steps
and you know what in each step you need to use one specific product. Like you can-
not use your mascara to color your lips right? And when they use unsuitable products
there maybe get worse than before than they keep sending money into this. And I’m
sure that it is not happy at all.

Secondly, money can buy short-term happiness. When you buy something new it’s
maybe can help you happy in a short time and maybe after a few days you have not
interested in this at all. But you know there are a lot of simple things that can make
you happy and of course without money. Like having dinner with your family, or just
sit down chill with your fav song, or just relax and hearing the sound of the clock, or
nature.

You know, money is never enough for everyone. If you ask some people about how
much money to make them be happy, I think they will give an amount of money that
more than they currently have. And the problem is that we will work harder and
harder just to get much money as we can, and forget about everything. Day by day,
we will be exhausted then we won’t have any interest in anything. So, do you think it
will happy? Instead of focusing on money and working, true happiness comes from
nurturing relaxation and from the peace of your mind.

TOPIC: IDEAL JOBS

Question 1: Which jobs are the most respected in your country?

In my opinion, these are highly skilled professional positions such as in the fields of
law, medicine, and engineering. Usually, parents encourage their children to under-
take such careers, because working in these domains, one always has a nice salary
and bright perspectives in life. I specifically respect doctors, since they are not only
hard-working professionals but also people who dedicate their lives to helping others.
Question 2: Some people say it’s better to work for yourself than be employed
by a company. What’s your view?

On the topic of self-employment, I agree with Chinese billionaire Jack Ma. For young
people, it is wiser to first seek a secure position at a smaller company, because at big
ones recent graduates frequently get lost in the large system and routine of endless
repetitive tasks, ending up unnoticed. At a family-owned enterprise, on the contrary,
it is easier to seize opportunities and take initiatives. As one grows, it is important to
focus on learning and developing hard skills. When there is a subjective border of
learning reached, one might reconsider the career choice in favor of a more responsi-
ble place at a bigger corporation or even the difficult path of entrepreneurship.

Question 3: What was the dream job for you when you were young?

My childhood dream job was to become a Doctor / engineer / fashion designer so that
I could help poor and needy people by providing them with affordable treatment /
house / clothes.

Question 4: Have you changed your mind about your dream job?

I think everything is changed according to time and situation. So my dreams are also
changed. Now I want to become a marketer.

TOPIC: ONLINE COURSES AND TRADITIONAL COURSES + TOPIC: ON-

LINE LEARNING

1. Traditional study:

About the advantages:

- A traditional study is a form of direct learning. It will have a class and some
tools like a chair, table, projector ... it will bring you to feel more real class-
room.

- Students can have physical contact with their teachers. Therefore, they can in-
teract easily when having questions about the lesson and get a satisfactory an-
swer.

- When you study at school, you have practical knowledge of various subjects in
laboratories and fields. You will have a real experience of what you have stud-
ied. Therefore, you can have better knowledge.

- You will develop a better relationship with your classmate. Because when you
study in school, you have to communicate with others and work with team-
work. And in addition, you can take part in some outside activities such as join
your school's club or volunteer. You will meet more people and have more
friends.

- Another advantage of traditional studying is you have a timetable. The

timetable and duration of lectures are all scheduled. This helps in making stu-
dents disciplined and civilized.

About the disadvantages:

- Traditional studying is not flexible, you have to attend on time otherwise, you
miss the lesson. On the other hand, if your house is far from school, you will
spend more time going to school, wake up, and have breakfast early more than
studying online.

- Studying offline maybe can be more expensive because you have to pay for de-
vices in the classroom and some fee of service of the school like water, elec-
tricity...

- You will depend on your teachers more. You become lazier because you think
your teacher will prepare all things for you, you just learn what you were stud-
ied and don't read more books to have more knowledge.

2. Online studying:

Question 1: What is online studying?

Online learning is when you take courses online, use the Internet and some tech-
nological tools to studying instead of going to a physical classroom.

About the advantages:

- The first advantage when studying online is you can study anywhere, from
your room, your house to your working place or coffee shop. You don't need
to go to a certain place such as your classroom. Online learning brings flexible
and comfortable for both teachers and learners.

- Because you can study anywhere so that you don't need to go to school for
your study. You can save time, the money you use daily when you go to
school. If you live far from your school, that will a piece of great news be-
cause you can have long and full sleep, eat breakfast before entering your on-
line study, and avoid accidents on the roads.

- We can be more active about time. For example, the kids in primary school,
are too young for knowing how to use a laptop or telephone so their parents
will study together with them. And they have to study at night because their
parents work in the morning.

- Another point making online studying more flexible is you can use many of
devices to take part in your class such as telephone and laptop, tablet... and the
teachers can use more tools to impart knowledge for their students like using
videos, e-books, discussion forums... Therefore, the lesson can be more attrac-
tive and exciting.

- With online studying, the lesson can be recorded and you can see and read
again if you want to clean more about the subject. That will be the occasion
for you to study every time.

- Online studying encourages students more active in self-study. Because you

can't depend on your teacher, you have to prepare a lesson before to under-
stand what the lecturer is saying. Thus, you can find out new things about the
lesson, different from what you are learned from teachers.

About the disadvantages:

- The first issue that you may encounter with your online learning is technol-
ogy. You can study anywhere, anytime but you must have the Internet, your
device must connect to Wi-fi. Another problem with the Internet is you can be
interrupted because of Internet's quality. Therefore, you won't understand the
lesson clearly and have to re-connect to your online classroom. That spends
more time and maybe makes you annoyed.

- In addition, “online studying” is still a new phrase. So, many teachers and stu-
dents are unacquainted with using online studying supporting apps. That's can
prevent teachers impart knowledge fully and exactly.

- Although the Internet grows strong and wide in many cities and towns but the
countryside or mountain areas, to have a decent speed of the Internet is still a
hard problem. Lots of the poor families don't have enough money for their
children to buy a telephone having a Wi-fi connection. So, many students in
rural areas have to stop study or go a long way to come to a place that haves
Wi-fi.

- The next issue is studying online can make the students less motivation study.
With online learning, there is also a greater chance for students to be easily
distracted by social media or other sites. Because the teacher can't control
class directly so they don't know you study actually or not?

- You can have some health problems when you have to sit in front of the
screen for a long time such as backache and eye strain. That will prevent you
from concentrating on your lesson. So that, you should have a short break-
time between online classes and take some small exercises.

Question 2: Do you think which form of studying suitable now?

Because the Covid 19 pandemic is riding and we are doing social distancing, we can't
go to school and take part in classes normally. So online learning is an essential solu-
tion for our studying. With the strong development of technology, we can continue
study without going to school. Learn at home will also protect healthy not only for
you but also for your social.

Question 3: Do you like online or traditional studying?

If I have to choose between traditional and online studying, I will choose traditional
studying. Because I want to meet my friends and lecturer. For me, that will easy to
understand the lesson when studying at school and I have more motivation to study.
Also, I can take part in outdoor activities with my classmates. But, I think applying
technology in traditional learning is still necessary because we are living in the AI era
and online studying still have perfect characteristics

TOPIC: GENERATION GAPS

Question 1: Is there a generation gap between you and your parents?

Yes, of course. Between me and my father, there are about 27 years and 24 years be-
tween me and my mother. There are huge gaps regarding opinions. Example: I am
much more open to the LGBT community but for my parents, it’s still something not
easy to get familiar with. I am more related to modern technologies and also regard-
ing social norms I completely think differently especially compared to my father.
This often results in issues.

Question 2: In your opinion, what has caused the generation gap between chil-
dren and parents?

During this entire time, there are so many technological advancements, educations

opportunities, and society up-gradations(by this I mean that society becomes more
liberal and less orthodox with time), that there is bound to be a difference in thinking
and opinions between the two generations. It is an obvious phenomenon.

Question 3: What will you do when you have different opinions than your par-
ents?

I constantly have had opinion differences with my parents and I'm sure I will have
more of them in the coming times. But I have never seen it as a problem. My parents
have always made it a point that every time we have an argument regarding anything,
they allow me to put forth my points and reasons to which they listen to very care-
fully and then they say whether they are for it or against it.

Question 4: Is the generation gap good?

According to my, the generation gap has its own good and bad. It is good because it
enables people belonging to different generations to look at the same thing from dif-
ferent perspectives. It helps old people experience and learns new things and tech-
nologies, and also they will pass on their experiences that they went through to young
people. The generation gap may turn out to be bad when people refuse to listen to the
other generation or reject their ideas completely. This may result in bad and broken
relationships.

Question 5: How to deal with conflicts between different generations?

The only thing people need to do is to open up their minds and accept new things
with an open heart. Of course, filtering the good and the bad is always vital, but it de-
pends on the social setup of a particular era. The basic key is 'change', which needs to
be incorporated in life.
