Introduction

One of the most important goals that Dr. G. Venkataswamy worked toward was

eliminating preventable cases of blindness in India. Dr. V's long-term goal is to expand the

services provided by Aravind Eye Hospital not only across the entirety of India but also

throughout the rest of Asia, Africa, and the rest of the world. Providing access to quality eye care

for people of all economic classes is one of the primary focuses of the American Eye Health

organization (AEH). In the long run, Aravind will face the risk of franchisees not treating the

poor people for free. In addition, not able to provide enough manpower for the new branches is

also a problem that the Aravind will face. This study aims to gain a better understanding of the

challenges that the AEH is currently facing as well as the potential solutions that may prove to be

the most effective.

Analysis/ Identify the Problem

One of the challenges for Aravind is the risk of franchisees not providing free treatment

to the poor. Even if Aravind Eye Hospital grants a franchise to open Aravind Eye Hospital

branches in other parts of India and abroad, there is a risk that the franchisee will not provide

quality service to the poor and will only seek to profit. Furthermore, the issue of "brain drain"

Doctors at Aravind hospitals are known for their excellent training and skills, and as a result,

they are in high demand all over the world. The opportunity of a higher salary, the prospect of a

better life and professional development may be a big incentive to leave their home country since

India, compared to western standards, still provides rather poor professional expectations and life

quality. It would be difficult for Aravind Hospital to find so many qualified ophthalmologists for

their new centres. The private sector pays much more than what Aravind Hospital offers to their
doctors. Thus it will be difficult to find qualified and good doctors who would be ready to work

at the salaries given by Aravind eye hospital.
