Dubai in October, 2022.

announced the opening of
Expo City Dubai. The new
city is an ideal smart and
futuristic destination for busi-
ness and innovation, driven
by sustainability, innovation,
education and entertain-
ment.
“After the historical suc-
cess of Expo 2020 Dubai,
which was visited by more
than 24 million visitors, and
which left an indelible mark
in the 170-year history of

Opening on October 1,
of Expo 2020 Dubai’s flag-
ship pavilions, entertainment
and technology offerings,

attractions, the comprehen-
sive city will feature offices,
leisure facilities, food and
entertainment venues,
sports facilities and a mall.

Dubai Metro and will also
house the world-class
Dubai Exhibition Centre
(DEC), a sought-after ven-
ue that hosted a range of
global summits, confer-
ences and concerts during
Expo 2020 Dubai. DEC will
continue to host a range of
conferences, events and
activities.
Three of Expo 2020’s
most-visited attractions, the
iconic Al Wasl Plaza, the
‘Garden in the Sky’ obser-
vation tower and the Sur-
real water feature, will re-
main. While Alif, the Mobility
Pavilion and Terra, the Sus-
tainability Pavilion, will live

Later this year, the Op-
portunity Pavilion will be-
come the Expo 2020 Dubai
Museum – a new addition
highlighting the history and
impact of World Expos and
celebrating the success of
the six-month event.
Other attractions set to
stay include the Women's

Visitors will also be able

clarified that an expatri-
ate must hold a passport
valid for at least 90 days to ob-
tain an exit/re-entry visa.
The Saudi General Direc-
torate of Passports said that if
the exit/re-entry visa is defined
in months, ie two, three or four
months, then it will be valid for
three months for travel starting
from the date of issuance while
the visa duration is determined

The directorate has set the
issuance fees of the individual
exit/re-entry visa at SR 200 (`
4,000) per travel for a maximum

triple foreign tourism this
year as pandemic restric-
tions ease, Hajj pilgrims return

ects open, according to Ahmed
Al Khateeb, Saudi Arabia’s Min-
ister for Tourism.
The Kingdom inaugurated
tourist visas in September 2019,
just months before the coron-
avirus pandemic decimated the
industry globally.
A record 64-million domestic
visits last year helped save the
nascent Saudi tourism sector
from collapse, and now authori-
ties want to seize more of the
international market, Mr Al Kha-
teeb said in an interview.
“Now we are pushing and
moving to attract more interna-
tional visitors,” he said, specifying
the goal for this year at 12 million,
up from 4 million in 2021.
“We are back and we are
very optimistic. Countries started
to open their borders, restrictions
started to ease down and people
started to travel,” he said.
Saudi Arabia has raised eye-
brows with its goal of attracting
100 million visitors by 2030, an
element of Crown Prince Mo-
hammed bin Salman’s Vision
2030 reform agenda intended
to diversify the oil-dependent
economy and open up to the
world.
The Kingdom has in recent
years relaxed rules barring cin-
emas, gender-mixed concerts,
and sporting extravaganzas.
Mr Al Khateeb specified that
of the 100-million targetted visi-
tors for 2030, some 30 million
are expected to come from
abroad while the rest would be
people travelling within Saudi
Arabia.
Around 30 million visits will
be religious trips by residents
and foreigners, largely to Mecca
and Medina, Islam’s two holiest
sites.

pilgrims will perform Hajj, after
two years in which the coron-
avirus pandemic forced drastic
limits on numbers for the annual
ritual.
Another high-profile feature
of the tourism push is the so-
called giga projects spearheaded
by Prince Mohammed, including
the $500-billion futuristic megac-
ity known as Neom and Diriyah,
the seat of the first Saudi state
which is being redeveloped as
a heritage and entertainment
destination.
“A restaurant district in
Diriyah is set to open in Sep-
tember, while other elements of
such projects will come online
from 2025 onwards. This is a
new level of tourism which does
not exist today,” said Mr Al Kha-
teeb who sits on the board of
Neom.
