Laila

"I'll be safe. I will come back home early,I promise" Laila feigning obedience was so annoying.
Laila was basically like every other teenager, rebellious, pretentious, mean, sloty and did I forget
she was no saint, like lying to our mom like over and over again was just too low even for her.
" I'll be in my room" I took my plate to the kitchen. Our house wasn't big. This was my
grandfather's house and it's been in the family for two generations now. We would move to
Andrews house soon. Andrew is our step dad and we all love him.
" Mom am leaving Heather is outside, kisses mom" she said with all that bubbliness in her voice.
And like she's being chased she ran out of the house.
It was 7am the next day when the door bell rang. I knew Laila was gonna be in trouble so I
happily answered the door.
" Am detective Stan Jones and this is my assistant Stone Emmason from the LPD department may
we come in? "
I opened the door to let them in and shouted loud enough for my mom to hear me. It's no surprise
she walked to the sitting room annoyed at me .
" Jody please stop shouting so early in the morning, you're gonna give me a migraine"
"Good morning Mrs. Hudson am detective Stan Jones and this is my assistant Stone Emmason
from LPD . Am afraid we have bad news . A girl was found dead in the woods this morning and
she appears to be your daughter Laila Stanguard. she was stabbed 7 times in her chest " he paused
looking at my mom to get a reaction." Your presence is needed at the station ma'am"
I could already hear my mom's silent sobs. She picked her coat and followed the cops out. I was
so shocked that I was unable to move.
It's been a week since Laila's death. The police came this morning with the autopsy result. The
autopsy shows Laila was 6 weeks pregnant.The police also told us that their investigation shows
she'd been with a man at the party. And just like that he dropped the million dollar question
" Was Laila in a relationship? Her friends told us she was seeing a married man. You know about
this?"
We fell silent, Laila would never. They think the killer is the child's father. And he may have done
it to cover their affair up. They left a file containing a list of her boyfriends , asked us to call if we
recognize anyone and left.
None of us could go through it for sometime but perplexed is the word to use when we did go
through it. Two pictures alone were inside, we didn't know them. We couldn't believe these guys
both had familes and Laila was a mistress, the other woman.

After a week mom and I were invited to the station. We went straight to the detective's office. He
stood up when we entered his office to greet mom, courtesy obviously.
" Please have a seat"
There was nothing he'd say that would shock us anymore. For two weeks everything has felt
broken , Andrew wasn't even back yet. We so needed him right now.
" We managed to get a Security footage from the party and it seems the man who took Laila
outside is Mr. Tom Hudson , your husband"
" He's her dad, he may have decided to see her before leaving for the sea"
" Mrs. Hudson we talked to her friends and they all said the man she was with, was her boyfriend"
" Well they're kids. They haven't met Andrew. Did you call me for this?" She was already getting
upset and angry.
" Mom calm down let him finish please. Think about the baby"
" Sir I'd appreciate it if you do your job and stop telling me nonsense" she was yelling now. I felt
that strong woman I've known for years wasn't her anymore. She looked nothing like her. Laila's
death broke her.
" Mrs. Hudson please watch this carefully" he bent his laptop so we could see.
" Mr. Hudson tell us Why you killed her?"
" Emmanuel I know you'll be watching and am sorry. I love you my love. It was an accident trust
me. Laila didn't want to put an end to it. I was frustrated. She'd refuse to get an abortion and
threatened to tell you. She kept blackmailing me am so sorry" he was crying and looked so
pathetic. That was the first time I saw him like that and last time I saw him. It's ten years now and
it's still hurting to know he could do that.
