Ministry of Planning (Bangladesh)

History: In 1956, during the east Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) formed "Planning
Board" to establish state institutions. This the beginning of establishing state
institutions through planning board. In 1971(during liberation war). Mujib Nagar
Govt. formed planning cell for the implementation of development plan.

Vision: Sustainable, timely and effective socio-economic development planning.

Mission: Through sustainable development, participatory national development


planning, policy, strategy and effective resources management.

Divisions :
★ Planning Division :
Depertment Head - Mohammad Jainul Bari

The Planning Commission undertakes research studies and policy development


initiatives for the growth of national economy and the expansion of the public
infrastructure of the country, in tandem under the Ministry of Planning and
alongside the Ministry of Finance.

★ Statistics and Information Division :


Depertment Head -Mr. Mohammad Yeamin Chowdhury

Statistics Division was established in 1975 and was tasked to oversee the
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, which was formed in 1974. On 25 October
1999, "Parishangkhan Bhaban", the headquarters of the division was
inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The division was abolished in
2002 and turned into a wing of the Ministry of Planning. In 2010, the division
was recreated and in 2012 it was renamed to Statistics and Informatics
Division.

★ Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division :


Depertment Head - Pradip Ranjan Chakraborty

It is responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation of development projects under


the Annual Development Program. It is also responsible for inspecting field
projects and submitting reports to the President of Bangladesh and relevant
ministers. It also oversees the activities of Central Procurement Technical Unit.
