Writing Competition and Mentor Program 
 
The Saraswati Sangam Project deeply cares about nurturing the next generations of engaged 
youth that are aware of our heritage and are motivated to contribute to the advancement of 
science grounded in Vedic Knowledge. The annual writing competition and the youth mentor 
program are designed to facilitate and enable youngsters in their educational and career 
pursuits aligned with and empowered by the shared roots of our ancient heritage.   
 
Writing Competition 
 
We invite youngsters of Indian origin in the age of 12‐22 years to participate in the writing 
competition. The writing competition will involve writing a 1500‐words essay on ‘Current 
Scientific Relevance of Ancient Vedic Literature.’ You can pick any scientific discipline(s) of 
your interest or choice, and any specific period of literature older than 300 years to construct 
your research and write your essay.  More details on the writing competition follow: 
1. Structure of the Essay Competition:  
i. The essay should be submitted by email to saraswatisangam.tssp@gmail.com before the 
annual deadline of the competition. No late submissions will be accepted. 
ii. The essay should be written in English and will need to be solo and original writing. 
Only one essay submission is allowed per person. Any form of plagiarism will 
disqualify the submission. 
iii. All references and materials used to prepare the essay should be listed in the 
bibliography, as well acknowledging any help sought from anyone other than the 
author. 
2. Essay Submission Requirement.  
i. The essay should be written in a word document with 1” margin and 12pt text font. The 
word count should not exceed 1500 words. Any extra writing beyond the word limit 
will be ignored in the evaluation process. 
ii. Additional section should include the list of references and any abbreviations used in 
the essay. The references section will not be included in the essay word count.   
iii. The essay submission should accompany the author’s resume, containing author’s 
name, mailing address, e‐mail id, phone contact number, name of school or college (if 
applicable), among other standard information included in resumes. 
iv. The submission should accompany a reference letter from someone (not from a family 
member) who can speak to the youngster’s preparation and interest in the ancient 
Indian heritage. 
3. Evaluation of the Essays  
The review of the essays will be done following the criteria below:   
i. Originality of the write up: 50% 
 ii.Topic and strength of write up relating ‘Current Scientific Relevance of Ancient Vedic 
Literature’: 30% 
iii. Clarity of writing: 10% 
iv. Overall impression: 10 %  
4. Writing Competition Prizes 
i. TSSP will recognize three best essays with the TSSP Best Essay Award along with a 
cash component: $500 (first place); $400 (second place); $300 (third place). 
ii.  The best 10 essays will be invited to participate in the TSSP Mentorship Program. See 
the details below.  
iii. All participants will be given a certificate of participation. 
iv. Names and essays of all the winners will be published on TSSP social media channels1. 
 
Deadline for the 2022 TSSP Writing Competition: June 30th, 2022

Essays not meeting the above guidelines will not be considered and participation in the 
competition implies acceptance of all the above stated terms and conditions. 
 
Mentor Program 
 
The authors of the best 10 essays every year will be invited to The Saraswati Sangam Project’s 
Mentor program. Each mentee will be matched with a mentor with 25+ years of experience in 
the field of science, engineering or technology, with the best attempt made to match the areas of 
interest of the mentee with that of the mentor. The mentor will meet the mentee once every 
quarter to advise, guide and provide resources to help the mentee succeed in their self‐growth, 
self‐confidence, educational, and career pursuits.   
The nature and purpose of mentoring will be directed at achieving the following outcomes: 
 Increased self‐esteem grounded in our rich Vedic and Sanatani heritage; 
 Increased self‐awareness; 
 Increased ability to deal with peer pressure; 
 Improved communication skills; 
 Ability to make appropriate disciplinary career choices; 
 Improved goal‐setting; 
 Exposure to newer and different perspectives. 
TSSP mentors will commit at least 2 years of engagement with each mentee.
