ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the decision making of selected senior high
school students whether to continue college education. To determine preventive measures and
solution to problems on confusion of the students in choosing career path.

The entire grade 12 senior high school student of Immaculate Conception Polytechnic (ICP) was
chosen as the population for this study. Immaculate Conception Polytechnic was chosen as the
best locale for the research

The researchers used the descriptive method to gather respondents’ information. Descriptive
method includes the survey questionnaires. Researchers used Likert scale questionnaire to
determine the respondents’ answers and some questions for demographic profile. Descriptive
statistics used to analyze the data in this study included such measures as frequencies,
percentages and the weighted mean.

The responses in this survey at Immaculate Conception Polytechnic, The students characterize the
‘personal choice’ as the most significant factors that affect their decision on choosing a career then
‘environmental factor’ follows. ‘Family and peer influence’ did not see as a significant factor to the
students.

Researchers believe that many situations will be happen even you have already plans in your career path.
As much as you have plans, stick to it. It is really better to have plans especially at early age than late age
that will rush you in choosing a career path when you are there already. Career choice is an ever-evolving
process. Career choice is a process that includes experimentation, trial and error, decision-making and
eventually judgment. Students must be made aware of this process.

Holland Theory :

A person’s behavior is determined by an interaction between his or her personality and the
characteristics of the environment. Based on an individual’s personality pattern and the
pattern of the environment, some outcomes of such a pairing can, in principle, be forecast
using knowledge of personality types and environmental models. People search for
environments that allow them to exercise their skills and abilities, express their attitudes and
values, and assume agreeable circumstances and roles
