Ramadhan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a time when Muslims around the world
focus on prayer, fasting, giving to charity, and religious devotion. Muslims around the world
celebrate Ramadhan with the hope that their previous sins will be forgiven and attain taqwa. A
time when Muslims give charity and provide care for the needy.
In line with its goal of promoting Islamic Finance and addressing the needs of the marginalized
sectors, the Office of MP Anna Tarhata S. Basman conducted a back-to-back Islamic Finance
caravan and Ramadhan seminar series with Torils within the Bangsamoro region. The Office of
MP Abdullah G. Macapaar identified one of the target beneficiaries for the activity, Maahad
Delabayan Al-Islamia located at Brgy. Delabayan, Kauswagan Lanao del Norte. The activity
consisted of a lecture on the virtues, tips, and fiqh of fasting and playing of an IF video aimed at
instilling in the minds of the viewers the Islamic way of handling finance and livelihood. The team
provided iftar meals for the participants in breaking their fast.

fasting and how to supplicate for it. Ustad Abu Aiman answered by saying that exempted from fasting
are the following: 1. those who are severely ill because they cannot survive the day without eating,
but in return, they have to provide iftar or meals to a needy person who is fasting. The act is called
Feedia. 2. Women who are expecting or are in the phase of breastfeeding, are allowed to break their
fast if they think that their child’s health is at risk, and women who are going through their monthly
period cycles are likewise exempt from fasting. But it is required that they compensate for the number
of fasts they have left.
Fasting is not mandatory for those for whom it would constitute difficulty. For instance, people who
are sick or traveling can postpone their fast until their illness or journey is over. The elderly, the weak,
the mentally ill, and those who have a chronic illness that prevents them from fasting, are all
exempted during Ramadan. They may feed a needy person for every missed day if they can afford to
do so.
MP Abdullah Macapaar
expressed his heartfelt
gratitude to the Office.
According to him, he was
grateful that the madrasah
was among the selected
beneficiaries for the IF
Caravan and hoped that the
learners learned and
appreciate the basics and
importance of Islamic
Finance.
