Introduction Commentator

On May 11, 1996 our beloved Fr. Norman Melchor J. Peña, Jr., SSP
was ordained a Pauline Priest. This morning, after twenty-five
years, he stands before us, as a priest who has experienced, lived,
and shared God’s fidelity to him who called and chose him.

The witness of his Pauline priestly vocation has blessed the

Society of St. Paul, the Pauline Family, and the entire People of
God through his ministry and humble service. For 26 years, Fr.
Norman had been a Pauline missionary outside the country: to
Australia (1989-2004) and Italy (2004-2015), Now he is involved in
the school apostolate and formation of the students (from the
Society of St Paul and seven other religious institutes in Cavite) at
Saint Paul Seminary Foundation in Silang and in the animation of
Paulines through the Center of Pauline Spirituality in Makati.

In this Eucharistic Celebration, let us join Fr. Norman and his

family in thanking the Lord whom he serves and loves. May he
continue to stand before God’s presence, faithfully offering
sacrifices and prayers for and with the people. We join him with
his family in prayer that he may continue to give witness to the
joy of religious and priestly consecration and always encouraged
by the deep awe and gratitude to God of Fr Alberioine: “Non
timete, Io sono con voi. Di qui voglio illuminare! Fear not, I am with
you. From here I want to enlighten!”

Please stand to begin our celebration as we sing our entrance

hymn.
First Reading (Jer 1:4-9) Reader from Pena Family

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah.

The word of the LORD came to me thus:

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

before you were born I dedicated you,
a prophet to the nations I appointed you.

"Ah, Lord, GOD!" I said,

"I know not how to speak; I am too young.”

But the LORD answered me,

Say not, "I am too young."

To whomever I send you, you shall go;
whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Have no fear before them,
because I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.

Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth,

saying,

See, I place my words in your mouth!

—The Word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm (19:2-3, 4-7)

R. Their message goes out through all the earth.

The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day pours out the word to day,
and night to night imparts knowledge. (R.)

Not a word nor a discourse

  whose voice is not heard;
Through all the earth their voice resounds,
and to the ends of the world, their message. (R.)

He has pitched a tent there for the sun,

which comes forth like the groom from his bridal chamber
and, like a giant, joyfully runs its course.
At one end of the heavens it comes forth,
  and its course is to their other end;
  nothing escapes its heat. (R.)
Second Reading (Eph 4:1-17, 11-13)

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians.

Brothers and sisters:

I, a prisoner for the Lord,
urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received,
with all humility and gentleness, with patience,
bearing with one another through love,
striving to preserve the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace:
one Body and one Spirit,
as you were also called to the one hope of your call;
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
one God and Father of all,
who is over all and through all and in all.
But grace was given to each of us
according to the measure of Christ's gift.
And he gave some as Apostles, others as prophets,
others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers,
to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry,
for building up the Body of Christ,
until we all attain to the unity of faith
and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,
to the extent of the full stature of Christ.

—The Word of the Lord.

Gospel Acclamation (Psalm 118:24)

Alleluia, alleluia. This is the day the LORD has made; let us be glad and
rejoice in it. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel (John 21:1-14) Fr. Dane Lumabas, SSP

A reading from the Gospel according to John.

Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias.

He revealed himself in this way.
Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus,
Nathanael from Cana in Galilee,
Zebedee’s sons, and two others of his disciples.
Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”
They said to him, “We also will come with you.”
So they went out and got into the boat,
but that night they caught nothing.
When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore;
but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?”
They answered him, “No.”
So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat
and you will find something.”
So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in
because of the number of fish.
So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.”
When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord,
he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad,
and jumped into the sea.
The other disciples came in the boat,
for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards,
dragging the net with the fish.
When they climbed out on shore,
they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread.
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you just caught.”
So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore
full of one hundred fifty-three large fish.
Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.
Jesus said to them, “Come, have breakfast.”
And none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?”
because they realized it was the Lord.
Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them,
and in like manner the fish.
This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciples
after being raised from the dead.

—The Gospel of the Lord.

Homily

Prayer of the Faithful

Celebrant: Dear friends, let us ask the Lord for the vocation to the
priesthood and religious life. May the Lord inspire in the hearts
of young men and women the desire to follow and serve Christ
the Master more closely and intimately.

LORD, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

1. For the holy Church of God. Adorned by the virtues of her children, may she
ever more brightly shine for Christ, her spouse. Let us pray to the Lord. (R.)

2. For the gift of Faith, Hope and Love. May the Lord strengthen the hearts of
men and women, especially the frontliners, to believe the Gospel and witness
to it through works of love. Let us pray to the Lord. (R.)

3. For members of the Pauline Family, all priests and consecrated men and
women. May their lives of total dedication to God be instruments for people
to see and make sense of the what is happening around us with the
continuing challenge of the pandemic. Let us pray to the Lord. (R.)

4. For Fr. Norman. May he continue to serve the Lord in humility and holiness
through the Pauline priesthood and ministry. Let us pray to the Lord. (R.)

5. For young people who are in initial formation of Pauline religious life. May
the challenges they encounter in prayer, apostolate, study and common life be
a source of strength rather than weakness. Let us pray to the Lord. (R.)

6. For the family of Fr. Norman especially Daddy Melchor and Mommy Norma.
May God continue to embrace them in his bosom through the power of his
grace and peace. Let us pray to the Lord. (R.)

Celebrant: Father, look upon your family and grant our petitions. May your
grace be upon us always that we may perform our ministry for
the glory of your name. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
PRIEST’S PRAYER TO THE DIVINE MASTER
To be prayed by the Jubiliarian after Post Communion Prayer

Jesus, Divine Master, I thank and bless your most loving Heart for
having instituted the priesthood and for my vocation. Priests are
sent forth by you as you were sent by the Father. To them you
have entrusted the treasures of your doctrine, of your law, of your
grace; to them you have entrusted your people.

Jesus, eternal high priest, be for me Way and Truth and Life. May
I always be salt that purifies and preserves, light of the world, the
city placed on the mountaintop! May everyone love your priests,
listen to them, and let themselves be guided on the paths leading
to heaven.

Today I renew the resolutions and commitments of my holy

ordination, and I offer them to you with humility and confidence,
with the will to be more faithful to you.

Desiring to live my priesthood fully, I want to prepare myself for

a total consecration to you, in the commitment also to observe the
evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience.

Jesus Divine Master, grant that I may one day be in heaven with a
multitude of people saved. Amen.
