INTRODUCTION

All of God’s children have been called into the ministry; we are therefore “Saints In Ministry”. As saints in ministry we
have identified three (3) main aspects of ministry:
1. Ministry to God
2. Ministry to the Church
3. Ministry to the world

Follow Up is a ministry largely to the church. This is in the sense that follow up is done on those who have been won
already. The goal of the cell ministry is Soul winning and Soul development. It is not enough to lead some one to
Christ; that person must be brought into the house of God to be properly raised in the way of the Spirit. Follow up is
the first step we take towards achieving Soul development and there are different processes involved in it.

The goal of follow up is to make disciples. You must therefore have this at the back of your mind, as that is the
command that Jesus gave us, He told us to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20)

Your vision and purpose in life determines the value that is placed on your life. When you know that the faiths of
many people are dependent on you, then you will build your life strong so that God can always depend on you to
strengthen His people.

In an urban setting and in a growing church, there could be challenges as far as follow up is concerned, however the
follow up person is the most important factor in handling such challenges. Our emphasis here is on the individual
follow up person.

You will need to take a look at how the environment you are operating in affects your productivity in follow up, your
inner motivation for doing what you are doing, the challenges you are facing and how to tackle them. As you ponder
on these things, you will begin to see with the eyes of the Spirit and definite ideas will come to you on how to handle
the challenges that you face in doing this great work so that now and always your endeavors in follow up will be a
fruitful enterprise.

As you study this book, God will meet us at our various levels of involvement and affect our mentality. The bible says;
“all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” 2 Timothy 3:16 – 17

The challenges of follow up in a growing church in an urban setting can best be appreciated when we fully realize
what real follow up is all about.

Follow up includes visitation and communicating with the prospective disciple. It is however much more than these.
Follow up must cover the following points:

1. It is a work of the ministry.

2. It is a demonstration of our part in the Covenant. It enhances our consciousness as the covenant people.
3. It is the strength of a growing church.
4. Follow up is a tool for spiritual development and maturity.
5. It is a procedure for discipleship.

1. Follow up as a work of the Ministry

The work of the ministry is not for pastors and evangelists alone. Yet this is the impression that many Christians have
of the ministry. To them, it is all about preaching in the pulpit by the pastor or by whoever called to do it. The work of
the ministry is large and vast and it entails all that is done to move the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ forward. All
that is done to cause the body of Christ to grow and come to maturity is the work of the ministry.
Follow up therefore is a vital key to healthy all round church growth when it is done properly. Who then should do
follow up? What is the Pastors’, evangelists’, prophets’, apostles’ and teachers’ role in follow up? In other words,
how is the average church or cell member involved in follow up? How am I relevant in this ministry work?

When these questions are answered, then we will begin to see that follow-up is a very important, if not one of the
most important aspects of ministry in a growing church.

The bible says, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and
teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all
come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fullness of Christ:”
Eph 4:11-13

The answers to the questions posed above are found in these few verses. The five fold ministers train and perfect the
laity to do the work of the ministry. This is what applies in follow-up. The brethren are trained with the word of God
in the art of making disciples by the pastors, evangelists, teachers, prophets and apostles. The important points to
always be conscious of are:

1. That follow-up is a very vital aspect of the ministry.

2. That without a sustained, properly coordinated and strategic follow-up, the growth of the church will be
highly impeded. To say the least the growth will be very erratic and unstable.
3. That at different levels every Christian, whether he is a pastor, apostle, evangelist or a brother or sister
should be involved in this great work of making disciples for the Lord.

As a work of the ministry, follow-up is the completion of the Great Commission. A disciple is made for Christ when he
has become one who lives by the Word of God and an ardent soul-winner. All that is done in follow-up is designed to
achieve these goals.

The goal of every cell must be to get to the point where all the members are deeply involved in follow-up. The leader
must then have at the back of his mind that he is not just leading people. He wants to bring them to the full stature
of Christ where they can have the same kind of passion the master has for people and do the very works of God.

2. Follow-up as a demonstration of our part in the covenant

Every Christian has a part to play in the covenant we have with God. God clearly demonstrates this in the bible. He
said, But thou shall remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may
establish his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Deut 8:18
In one of the provisions of the covenant, the Lord said that He will make our name great and we shall be a blessing.
He has made us his battle axe and weapons of war. Through us he establishes His people in righteousness and
teaches the principalities and powers the manifold wisdom of God. Through us He imparts His life into others and
grows them to walk with Him. He has blessed us and made us a blessing to all. This is one way of confirming the
covenant. When we get involved in follow-up and building lives, we are blessing people. We are confirming the
covenant. Every Christian should continually ensure that he remains God’s arm of salvation to his or her world.

3. Follow-up as the strength of the growing church

Follow-up is much more than visitation. It is a process deliberately planned with the purpose of making disciples of
our new converts. The process of follow-up involves a lot of activities ranging from visitation, telephone calls and
prayers. All the activities of follow-up put together makes the church to develop both in quality and in quantity.

Growth in quality suggests that the people are continually being taught the word of God. The end result is that they
are being established upon the truth. The new converts are not left on there own. They are carried along through
intercession and instruction from the word of God. This immediately shows that follow up is more than a mere social
call. It is a visit or a call deliberately planned with aim of achieving a definite result. The result is to mature the saints.
This means that the follow up person must have as a part of his plan definite scriptures on a selected topic and must
end his follow up with prayers. Remember we are not alone we are working/walking with the Lord.

Growth in quantity simply means that as people are prated for and taught by the brethren in follow up, a large
percentage of our first timers and new converts are being retained in church. They then join in the work of discipling
people because that is basically what they are being trained to do.

4. Follow up as a tool for spiritual development and maturity

This shows that follow up affects even the person doing it in a most fundamental way. There is so much you cannot
learn just by studying the bible and praying. Christianity is not book application. In Christianity growth is majorly by
interaction. You do not begin to walk in love because you read a book about love. Christianity is life. As the follow up
process is going on, the follow up person will meet something’s that will challenge him. These would be a test of his
love, faith, and patience e.t.c. as he surmounts these tests one after another faith grows in leaps and bounds. James
said, my brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith
worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Jam 1:2-4
This is one reason why the devil does not want any Christian to be involved in follow up. He knows a lot of maturity
would result from that. He sets up things and distractions to frustrate and discourage the unsuspecting brethren
from the great work.
These distractions and frustrations are the things we have called challenges. As we go ahead, we would be able to
identify some of these peculiar challenges and further show how they can be surmounted by the wisdom of God and
the power of the Holy Spirit.

5. Follow up as a procedure for discipleship

The Lord Jesus Christ gave the church a clear mandate, which we call today, THE GREAT COMMISION. There He said,
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mat 28:19-20
The whole process of follow up is a deliberate attempt to fulfill this great commission. It is discipleship in action. The
pastor has given the word but someone will have to follow that word to ensure that it is deeply rooted and
internalized by the convert. Follow up is therefore a supportive ministry in making disciples. It is a very crucial
ministry. Without this the Church will be full of Spiritual babes and this will not do anybody any good. It must
therefore become clear to every Christian that the reason for follow up is to make disciples of all men for the Lord.

The Challenges of Follow up in a growing church in an urban setting

A growing church is the one that is strategically positioned to advance both in quality and in quantity in the plan,
purpose and program of God. Follow up in this case serves both as a tool of developing the leadership base upon
which the growing church is firmly founded and it also provides the avenue for the members of a growing church to
be effectively involved in the work of the ministry.

The challenges of follow up in a growing church in an urban setting would therefore include the following:
1. The peculiarity of the urban setting in terms of sociological, economical, geographical, financial and time
constraint.
2. Information management i.e. the supply of the wrong and incomplete information by the first timers and
new converts.
3. Ineffective cell system i.e. the leader’s lack of understanding of the operation of the cell system.
4. A weak monitoring process.
These would be explained in-depth. How to deal with them would also be shown but firstly it is very important to
recognize as we stated earlier that these challenges are distractions, delays and deceptions of the devil. When this is
done then we quickly begin to see that it is something we can deal with. The reason is because the devil is under us
and we can exercise our authority over him and determine the course of our lives in such a way that we keep being
effective in the ministry of follow up that we have all been called into.
In the epistle of Paul to Timothy, the Holy Spirit reveals some very important points, which are some of the reasons
why follow up faces these challenges. He said, these know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For
men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying
the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:1-5
He is describing the kind of world we are operating in. the things he mentioned here put together are the reasons
why the challenges outlined below are existing. It is an influence of darkness but we have to stand up and put the
devil where he rightly belongs. So we will look at the challenges one after another.

1. The peculiarity of the urban setting in terms of social, economical, geographical, financial and time
constraints
WHY PEOPLE DON’T COME TO CHURCH
Sometimes we do all we can, yet still some people do not come to church. There are various reasons why they are
not able to come to church so it becomes our responsibility to step in to help them and do something about such
situations.

 Financial Problems
Do you know that some of our brethren do not have enough money to transport themselves to church?
Some of them may not have had a meal of food the previous night and are depressed.
Some others live quite far from the church venue where finding adequate transportation is burdensome for
them while others that may have vehicles have troubles with their vehicles and do not have enough money
to fix it.
What to do
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Pro 19:17
He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Pro 22:9
Give him the money to come to church and to hear God’s word, the message will put money in His pocket for
all time because the word of God will change his position. Amen.

 Sickness
Sometimes a brother or sister may be sick and cannot make it to church. Maybe the Child is sick, that’s why
they didn’t come to church. Are you aware that even though we preach divine health, divine healing and we
minister healing; we still have some of our members who get sick.
What to do
Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him
with oil in the name of the Lord:
Jam 5:14
Visit them. That visitation is better than medicine. The very fact that you came will bring healing to
that person.
And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
Mat 8:14
You’re like Jesus; you move with the presence of Jesus, you’re not an ordinary person. When you show up
the answer has arrived.
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the
throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from
another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the
goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit
the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I
was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick,
and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Mat 25:31-36
Next time you notice that one of your members is not in church, go and look for them. If you have 12
members, at every service find out who is there and who is not there. Write that name down if that fellow
didn’t come to church. Go find out, send messages, go yourself until you are satisfied. If he was sick, go and
find out. Go there, encourage the discouraged, strengthen the disheartened, that’s ministry.

 Persecution
Persecution takes place at different levels and in different ways. In the home, maybe the husband is
persecuting the wife for being a Christian or for going to this particular church, or maybe the wife is even
troubling her husband for being a member of the church, or maybe the children are troubling their parents
for coming, or maybe even at work.
What to do
Persecution can come from different areas in different ways; you have to know how to help them stand their
ground in the face of staggering opposition. You must go out, you must reach out and you must go on visits.
If that one has become inaccessible because they don’t want you in contact with him begin to write. Use the
telephone, go through a friend, make an appointment, see him at work, and plan to meet somewhere. You
must do everything you can until you get across to him because you have the solution. You must encourage
him or her; you must pray and intercede.
When you look out for a human need and reach out to meet that need, you have learnt the success way.

 Discouragement/Failed Expectations
Sometimes we have brethren who are offended because they had believed God’s word concerning a
particular matter, they had prayed, fasted, even sowed seeds hoping that God would come through for them
within their own time limit or help them ensure that they got their hearts desire but it didn’t work out so.
Now they are discouraged.
What to do
We need to pray and intercede for these ones. After spending quality time interceding on their behalf, then
go and visit them and teach them the word of God. They need to be taught now more than anything else.
They need to know that they have to grow, that God does not exist for them; they exist for God. God is not
alive to answer their prayers; they are alive to do God’s bidding.

 Emergencies, Sudden Responsibilities

This is one reason some others may not come to church. Maybe a loved one got sick and they are charged
with the responsibility to take care of that loved one, maybe a woman’s husband got sick and she has to stay
back to help him, maybe a cousin had a problem, maybe there was an accident and suddenly the brother or
sister is called to hurry down and come help. There are sudden responsibilities because of some crisis in the
family and so someone may not come to church.
What to do
You visit; you’re going to discover that most of what you have to do in dealing with these issues is to visit.
Visitation means a lot. Be a visitor that doesn’t cost your host anything.

 Travel Plans
Maybe your brethren had to leave town for some urgent reason, maybe school, work, business or personal
matters. While he is away, a lot can happen that will determine if he will return the same way he left you.
What to do
Pray for him. When you have been informed that he/she has traveled. Write down the name and then when
you pray, pray for him; pray about his journey and influence around him.
 Negative Influences
There are times that we find ourselves being influenced by the wrong people maybe by outsiders, maybe
someone has been criticizing the church and now this brother/sister because of the criticism is beginning to
dodge and every time he sees a brother from that church he runs away, he doesn’t want to come to church
anymore. When he finds you, he escapes. He doesn’t want you to bring him to church because the wrong
folks have influenced him.
What to do
You must specially intercede for that one. You must visit him often. Why? He is receiving a lot of wrong
visitations. They are visiting him on the telephone; they are visiting him with letters or e-mails. They are
visiting him physically and telling him all kinds of things and that is what is causing him to run away.
You must now do something; you must visit him and bring in your own influence.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Rom 12:21
Your influence will be of more power no matter what has been done or said.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and
so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Heb 10:25
Teach him God’s word as relating to fellowshipping with one another. If he is not involved in the Cell system,
ensure he starts to attend his meetings and assign him to someone in the cell if you would not be very
available to visit or follow him up.

CONCLUSION

I trust that you have been blessed, equipped and inspired by the information in this book. It is very important that
you keep this book as a reference material and go through it over and over again. Repetition is the law of deep and
lasting impression. As you study it over again it will create in you an excellent mindset in cell growth and
organization.

Jesus after His resurrection said to His disciples, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He
that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Mar 16:15-16
We have a mandate to tell the people this good news. It is not our responsibility to make anybody believe but it is
our certainly our job to tell them.
As Cell Leaders, we ought to outdo our past, whether the next person is doing the right thing or not because each
one of us will account to God for our life. The master said, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but
because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
John 15:19
You are not of the world. He has chosen us out of the world before we got born again, that is a very true statement.
When we received eternal life, we were completely separated, not just by choice, but by nature. Jesus said; and these
signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They
shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and
they shall recover.
Mar 16:17-18
We are the believing ones and because our hands have been imparted by the Holy Ghost, it’s no longer an ordinary
hand; it’s the extension of the hand of the Holy Ghost. He said ‘…and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not
hurt them’. Why? Their blood has nothing to do with their bodies now. When you get a hold of this, you will live a
different life.

It’s a joy to serve God. He has brought us into His kingdom, and that kingdom is a present day reality.
That’s why it’s so important for every one of us to preach the gospel. Lead men and women unto salvation. It’s our
ministry; it’s our responsibility, we’ve got to do it now while we have the time, there is no other time but now.
It’s the most important thing in all the world. Everything about your life should focus on winning people for Jesus
Christ. There’s no other reason to be alive.
In almost every city, several things have been built around the human person making it very difficult to reach people
on one on one basis. You notice the estates, the high walls, the high rise building, security operatives and detectives.
Etc.

These are all situations peculiar to the city making it increasing difficult to reach some people. Whatever these factor
are God still requires that we reach all men and teach his ways. This means that we have to have the God given ideas
of how to counter these barriers.

However, like we said these factors are continually on the increase because of new technologies, economic
advancement, upward social mobility etc. these factors are not bad in themselves but we need to understand that
whenever something good comes up in the world, the devil (because he is still the god of this world system) takes
that which was originally designed to aid man and makes it a tool to further his own course.

Sometimes, it is almost impossible to know the man living next door to you, let alone visit him, some people are so
deeply buried in their jobs that the only way you can possibly have any interaction with them is through a phone call.
Then again, the calls coming in are monitored so that only the ones relevant to his job get to him. The man does not
even have time to come to church on Sundays.

God’s program of salvation still extends to such people. This is where we must take advantage of our television
ministry. You see getting the attention of the man described above is almost impossible. He may be your colleague or
even your boss or whoever. He may even be your next door neighbour. You still need to reach him and follow up on
him. Since it is difficult to get his attention for a lasting discussion, think instead of how to introduce him to our
television programs. Perhaps he has come to church once which clearly demonstrates his inner hunger and longing
for God.

You may have to design small but attractive informative cards about the television program and send it to his desk.
You know you can’t get to his house because of the security around him and other factors but he has a television at
home. No wall or security system can stop the man on the screen from entering into the man’s living room. This is
why we must utilize our television ministry in follow up. Even when you can easily reach the people, always ensure
you introduce them to the programs.

In follow up work, we do not recognize these urban factors as barriers because we are walking, working together
with the Lord. By the power of the Holy Spirit, He makes creative and we conceive ideas with which to overcome any
challenge we encounter in this great work. It is therefore necessary that we all open our hearts and think now and
always how to deal with these challenges because the ideas are right inside our spirit.
Again, there are some people that are not easily reached because of their economic and social status. This is why
every Christian must be gainfully employed. In any city your job serves as your identity. Your voice is heard when you
are financially well above board. Then it becomes easier for you to reach this kind of people since you can easily
communicate with them as one of them.

2. Information Management

This makes reference to the information supplied by the new converts or first timers in the personal data cards given
them to fill. As simple as this may sound, many a soul could not be reached simply because the name of the bus stop
closest to where he lives was not included in the information he supplied in the card. This then poses a challenge in
the follow up of such an individual. The reasons for the supply of incomplete; and sometimes entirely wrong
information ranges from illiteracy, lack of close supervision on the part of the counselors and even laziness on the
part of the person filling the forms.
You know that a card represents an individual. If there is insufficient information in the card to reach the person, the
fellow is as good as lost unless someone knows him who will be able to locate him. This means that every effort
should be made to thoroughly supervise and possibly help the new converts or first timers fill their forms.
To see how this can be done effectively, see the section that deals with the monitoring roles of the PCF, PCU and the
cell leaders in follow up.

3. Ineffective Cell System (Leader’s lack of understanding of the operation of the Cell system)

This has proved to be one of the major factors in the low participation of people in follow up. Many leaders do not
fully understand the purpose of the Cell system. They fail to realize that it is the God-given system that gives
everyone opportunity to participate in the ministry. In so many cells you find the cell leader doing all the visitations;
all the follow up and the same person coordinates all the meetings. The problem is he has not trained them to do it.
He does not understand that one of the major reasons why he has a cell apart from winning souls is to build up
leaders who will do the work of the ministry with little or no supervision.

The problem this creates is that the work that would have been done probably in four days ends up taking a whole
month because only a man does it. If enough disciples are not made in a cell, the art of delegation becomes a very
difficult task. The leader ends up like Moses who had to be taught by Jethro hoe to train leaders and delegate
responsibilities to them.

4. Poor monitoring and coordination of Follow up

This is where the pastoral care department, PCF, PCU, Cell leaders and all the follow up coordinators at different
levels come in. no meaningful progress can be made in any endeavour without proper monitoring and control. There
is a lot of assumption after responsibilities have been given to people. The job will not get done just because we
assume it is being done. We have to monitor to ensure that the performance conforms to our goal. There is a process
in our follow up system and it leads to the making of disciples. It is important to monitor and control follow up
activities at all levels in Church so that the purpose will be met.

Every week cards are issued out to different fellowships, which commences the follow up process. By the follow up
process every prospective disciple is entitled to at least four weeks of intensive follow up except in some extreme
cases. There are people trained to do this work with the leaders but they have to be monitored to ensure that;
a. The cards are distributed as and when due.
b. The cards do not stay beyond the stipulated period
c. The follow up persons are actually doing it right, e.g. having definite plans for their visits and call.

Overcoming these challenges

Some suggestions have been given while discussing these challenges but they are not exhaustive in anyway. The ones
below are also not exhaustive but could serve as a guide. You can discover more for yourself.

To overcome these challenges of follow up in a growing church in an urban setting take not of the following:

1. Have a vision
Develop a personal vision and passion for the Master. The bible says where there is no vision, the people perish: but
he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Proverbs 29:18
Every Christian should have a personal conviction of what follow up is all about and his role in it. This vision is what
will motivate him to action. Paul had a revelation of what the gospel truly is and because of that he was sold out to it.
He discovered that the gospel was man’s only hope. When you understand the value God places on that card in your
hands, follow up becomes a very natural thing to do because a card is an individual.

2. Recognize the partnership of the Holy Spirit

When we talk of getting ideas to help us meet up with every challenge we face in follow up, this is what we are
talking about. The ideas reside in the Holy Spirit who lives in us. We are not walking, working alone. We have a senior
partner and Jesus said that this partner would take of the father and show it to us as well as of the Son. He reveals to
us things to come and guides us in the wisdom of God. He can tell you how to deal with a very difficult person and
how top break through the strictest security network to reach an individual. We should always be conscious of his
presence.

3. Be spiritually Intelligent
This just means knowing what is require of you from the word of God. In follow up some people end up in argument
and instead of winning the person, they went to follow up on, they only succeeded in pushing him further away. God
did not send anybody to make arguments. His word does not give room for any opinion. It is either received or
rejected. As a principle, avoid arguments with the person you go to follow up on. When he tries to be contentious,
avoid all topics that you know will lead to argument therefore diverting the course of your visit. That may just be the
devil trying to cause distractions. God sent you to proclaim His word and not to argue about it.

4. Strategic Planning
This would include goal setting and effective time management. In everything we do including follow up, goal setting
is very important if we must achieve any meaningful result. We must set out in follow up knowing exactly what we
want to achieve and then plan out time to achieve it. One way to do this to keep your goal in follow up always before
you and let it guide whatever you do there. Avoid being treated to a lunch or a bottle of Coke while on Follow up. If
this must happen, let it be after your mission is accomplished, but then it is still not advisable. Remember you are a
model to the person you are following up. Anything you do sends a message to him.

5. Strategic praying
This involves regular and purposeful intercession for the individual you are working on. Without this much of your
effort will be wasted. The Pauline prayers for the saints are the most suitable and they are listed below:

Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your
understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of
his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to
the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his
own right hand in the heavenly places,
Ephesians 1:16-20

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner
man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to
comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ,
which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:16-19

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may
approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ; Being filled with
the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 1:9-11

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled
with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto
all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might,
according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
Colossians 1:9-11

Pray these prayers always and also pray as you are led of the Spirit for the ones you are doing follow up on. The
result will speak for itself.

5. Develop Practical Tools for effective follow up

a) Learn to write, correspond and make phone calls.
b) Learn to listen attentively and be very observant
c) Invest in good study materials e.g. Books and tapes.

Remember, God’s word is undated and it will always inspire no matter the medium it is coming through. Make it your
eternal friend. Remember, Moses had to continually lift his hands up in the mountain for the Jews to keep winning
against the amalekites. This is what we do when we intercede foe our prospective disciples. We keep the devil
constantly at bay.

What to look out for in monitoring

 Are your forms being submitted every week as expected?
 Are there any problems of communication between follow up coordinators and PCU leaders?
 Has your follow up been properly carried out?
 What percentage of cards are you returning to PCD?
 How many people are being added to your group from follow up efforts?

The role of the coordinator should not be underestimated at any level of our operation.
*The follow up coordinator should be given opportunity to address the members on the issue of follow up when they
have a general meeting.
