Subject: Workflow in the Warehouse

To all my coworkers and readers alike, you are reading this email because there is a very
large issue in the warehouse industry that I would like to better for us all. Humans are
especially fragile beings and hard work can easily wear us down. That’s why we are
prone to breaking down and being less productive as we countdown to the end of work.
Definitely, in an ideal world, everyone in the organization stays productive for the whole
8 hours (the average number of hours in a workday). Dealing with lazy co-workers who
don’t pull their weight zaps morale. Few things are more aggravating than working hard
while your slacker coworker in the next cubicle earns the same salary for doing half the
work. This causes for something to be done so everyone can be on the same page and
doing the work they need to do. This memo will be talking about how others workers and
myself benefit from better management of lazy workers.

Summary:
As a warehouse worker and responsible employee, I have seen myself and others be
affected by the lack of worker some coworkers produce on a daily basis. I would like to
propose an idea that will help coworkers get on their feet and not get so distracted and
lazy throughout the day. So that all workers can have a fair amount of work they need to
do for each one of their shifts.

Laziness and Being Distracted:

Many workers in the warehouse think they can get away with not doing any type of work
when it isn’t busy, while others are doing constant work. It could be sweeping,
restocking, or even reorganizing and fixing things in the warehouse. There are many
things that could be done, but the lazy ones will always sit down and be on their
cellphones.

Lack of Equipment being worn:

A very big issue in the workspace as well, is the lack of workers wearing radio
equipment. There are times where you may not be able to reach a coworker on the radio
system because they did not want to put a radio on. There are various reasons that they
come up with on why they don’t have one. Either they couldn’t find one without looking
for one, they don’t like how it feels on their ears when it is perfectly comfortable to wear,
and outright not wanting to wear one so someone else can do the job that is proposed
over the radio.

How we can get more focused:

With the number of workers that use their phone 85% of the time in the warehouse, there
has to be a way to remove the ability to do so and I have an idea for it. A quick and easy
solution is not being able to use their phone in the warehouse. This will not allow
workers to hide in the warehouse and not do work. Also, if some workers still do use
their technology when not allowed, management should speak to them one on one on the
use of cellphones in the workplace and even put the device in a bin for further use after
work. Cellphones are a huge distraction in the workplace overall.

How we can work better as a team and do work

fairly:
Lastly, on the topic of radio use, management should have the ability to order more
equipment so that there is an abundance of radios all over each department store for
employees to clearly see and grab a radio to work efficiently and correctly. For those that
do not wear a radio for the discomfort of them, management team should definitely see
how they can help. I personally bought my own earpiece that is very comfortable and can
hear coworkers even clearer, so I recommend the management team to do the same for
other coworkers. At the end of the day, if you do not want to wear the radio because you
don’t want to do your job, management should 100% have a sit down with this person
and see if the job is the right fit for them.

Conclusion:

Overall, I really hope that the management team and many others around the world are
able to use these recommendations in the workplace to fix these issues. Many coworkers
do not speak up about others about their work flow because they are afraid of retaliation,
but I personally believe that the management team should stay on top of workers that are
not contributing to the team and have a talk with them all.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope this information and be of use in your
workplace,
Kevin Baez
