“Mas Matalino ang Tubig”

Virgilio S. Almario
Mas matalino ang tubig;
Bumababa ito nang tahimik
Mulang bukal sa bundok
Para di magising ang mga hayop.

Lumilihis ito sa marahas na bato

Para agnasin nang marahan at sekreto;
Nagtatago ito kapag galit ang araw
Para bumalik na masayang ulan.

Marunong din itong matakot sa talon,

Magtiwala sa lilim ng kahoy,
Magsuspetsa sa talampakang maputik,
At mamahiga kapag nag-iisip.

Ang tubig na matalino’y

Dumadaloy nang yuko ang ulo
Ngunit nag-iiwan ng mayamang bakas
Bago sumanib sa dagat.

We may not have realized it. But water is smarter than most human.
This piece inspired me to adapt the good characteristic of water. It is smart,
mysterious, strong, and helpful. Those traits are what I need to survive life
with great tactics. Like water that descends quietly from high mountains so
as to not awake the beasts. I should also quietly keep my own pace without
worrying about the opinions and harsh comments of other people. I should
descend from above, where I belong, quietly, without waking other people’s
inner beast. I will show humility and bravery to execute my plans and
achieve my goals, dismissing the crab mentality mindset that most people
have.
Like a wise water who avoids harsh rocks, to wear them away slowly,
in secret, I will avoid bad companions and cut relationships from toxic
people. I will wear them slowly with my accomplishments and success with
the sole intention of proving that I can achieve something without their
advice and opinions. Like a water, I will hide when the tension is furious
and too much to bear, only to comeback as cheerful rain. I will work
secretly, without craving for attention. And I will come back as the person
who exceeds everybody’s imagination.
Like a water who knows how to fear, but also knows how to trust. I
will fear God’s anger, but I will trust God’s loving hands. In life, there is only
one God who does the judgment, and He is also the one who saves people
from the judgment. It is our responsibility to save ourselves by allowing God
to change our lives and trust His unconditional love.
A water knows how to distrust a mud-caked feet. Likewise, we should
also know how to distrust people with questionable intentions and motives.
It is a foolish thing to trust everybody you meet, we should always put
benefit of the doubt, and be wise on whom we trust. Like water, we should
take a few moments to think. Because every drop is important, every
decision has an equal or greater outcome.
This poem made appreciate the unrecognized characteristics of
water. Like water, I will strive to be wise and clear minded. I will flow
humbly with my feet on the ground. And I will leave good memories and
love every step of my way, before I reach my final stay, and join the sea
with warm embrace.
