1. Find a linear homogenous differential equation of least possible order having constant real coefficients (1 Mark )
which has ex sin 2x and xe3x as its solutions.

2. Convert the DE given below into a constant coefficient linear DE by doing a substitution of the form (2 Marks)
t = xm for some suitable real number m and hence find its general solution.

xy 00 − y 0 + 4x3 y = 0

3. Find the general solution of the inhomogenous Cauchy-Euler equation- (3 Marks)

x2 y 00 − 4xy 0 + 6y = x3 + 2x2

4. Find the Wronskian of x2 , x2 ln x and x2 ln2 x for x > 0. (2 Marks)

5. Let y1 and y2 be solutions of the DE (2 Marks)

y 00 + p(x)y 0 + q(x)y = 0

in an open interval I and let p and q be continuous. Prove that if y1 and y2 have a common point of
inflection to ∈ I then they cannot be linearly independent on I unless both p and q are zero at to .
