Places in the city (teacher’s notes)


1. Warm-up (Activity 1) 2 min
Aims: to break the ice.
Procedure: Ask your SS to look at the picture for a moment, then close it. Then ask them to name all the
things they can remember.

2. Lead-in (Activity 2) 3 min


Aim: to engage students in the context of the lesson.
Procedure: Ask your students about the place they live in. Elicit the names of some places that can be
found in their neighbourhood.

3. Watching a video (Activity 3) 5 min


Aim: to improve listening skills and introduce new vocabulary.
Procedure: Play the video till 1:00 and ask your SS to tick the things they saw in it. If necessary, play the
video twice.

4. Vocabulary work (Activity 4) 5 min


Aim: to provide semi-controlled vocabulary practice.
Procedure: Ask your SS to find and circle the words connected with the previous video.

5. Watching a video (Activity 5) 5 min


Aim: to improve listening skills, introduce new vocabulary and revise occupations.
Procedure: Play the video from 1:00 till 1:40 and ask your SS to match the places with the people working
there.

6. Vocabulary work (Activity 6) 5 min


Aim: to provide semi-controlled vocabulary practice and to practise reading.
Procedure: Ask your SS to read the dialogue and fill in the gaps with the words.
