“Bloody Rats”

by Alex Korty
PAGE 1 - INTERIOR - 5 PANELS

1.1:

Establishing shot of WILL SCARLET, an intense young man in his mid-20’s, chained in almost
total darkness to a dingy dungeon wall made of stone. His back is to the stone wall and his long
orange hair hangs down his face and partially covers the left side of his head, which is still raw
and dripping blood. We cannot make out the rest of his body and the room in the darkness.

Caption: The man’s a zealot. He won’t talk.

1.2:

Will’s eyes remain closed and he remains still against the wall.

Caption: I’ve dealt with zealots before.

1.3:

A creaking noise is heard. Will’s eyes flutter open in shock.

Caption: The man is devoted to you and your cause. He’ll never talk.

1.4:

Light starts to fill the dungeon room from the opening door. We can now see Will’s body in the
frame. He is shirtless, and only has an old pair of brown pants covering him. He is quite
muscular, but he feels small and powerless in this moment. He can’t help but show panic on his
face

Caption: He’ll make him talk. I’m afraid Will Scarlet will need to be…

1.5:

The door is fully open and light illuminates the room. Will has collapsed to the floor on his side
in fear, knowing that this is likely the end for him.

Caption: … Dealt with.

FLASHBACK

2.1

Will is wearing a green cloak that wraps around his body, and a red mask that is permanently
etched in a sinister pale-white grin, that also sports two red horns. This is the costume of the
Merry Men, a group that follows the Hood in stealing from the rich and giving to the poor and
who will maim anyone who gets in their way. Behind him is a shorter and stockier man wearing
the same attire. This is Will’s cousin EDWARD. They are in a narrow dimly lit corridor in a
castle, with Will holding onto the outside door handle to another room.

Edward:
What are you waiting for?! Don’t tell me that you’ve changed your mind!

Will:
Shh! Of course I’m still in.

2.2

Edward:
Just think, as soon as we dispose of the Merry Men’s little traitor, we’ll be made men in the eyes
of the Hood!

2.3

Wide shot of an eerily empty, unfurnished room.

2.4

Will and Edward skulk into the room.

Edward:
Empty! He was supposed to be here!

2.5

Close up of the door slamming behind them.

SFX: SLAM!

3.1

THE HOOD stands against the door with a spiked club in his left hand. He is dressed similar to
Will and Edward, but he has an aurora of superiority and menace surrounding him.

Hood:
There’s no mistake. The traitor is in this very room.

3.2

The focus shifts back to Edward and Will.

Hood (off-screen):
We’re supposed to give to the poor, not line our own pockets.

Hood (off-screen):
Isn’t that right… Edward.

Edward:
I promise this isn’t what it looks like-

3.3

Will grabs at Edward’s pockets and rips them out.

Edward:
Stop Will!

Will:
Let’s see what you’re hiding, damn you!

3.4

Gold coins come flying out of Edward’s cloak and clatter across the floor. The Hood slowly
walks closer to the pair.

SFX: CLING
3.5

The Hood now looms above Edward.

Hood:
You know what we do to traitors Edward.

4.1

Close up of The Hood bashing Edward’s skull with the spiked club. Edward’s mask shatters and
his blood spurts into the air.

4.2

The Hood hands over the bloodied club to Will. Edward lies on the floor, whimpering and
bleeding profusely from his head. We can now see his pudgy face and bald head.

The Hood:
Your cousin is as rotten as the tax collectors. Take the rat out of his misery.

Edward:
Puh-please Will… we’re family.

4.3

Will bashes Edward in the head, killing him.

Will:
The Merry Men are the only family I need now.

4.4
Blood drenches Will face as The Hood puts a supportive hand on Will’s shoulder.

Will:
England is sick. We are the cure.

END OF FLASHBACK

5.1

We are back to the present where Will is laying on the ground in fear. We can now see several
rats close to Will, and the arms and body of the Hood holding a spiked club.

Will (whispering): No, no, no.

5.2

Close up of Will covering his bloody face with his hands. We can only see the tip of the spiked
club now.

5.3

The Hood slams the club on top of Will’s head, killing him. The Hood faces the reader as blood
flies to both the left and right of Will’s head. The Hood’s cloak billows almost like it’s alive
from the sheer impact of the blow.

END.
