Characters BEOWULF -Son of Scyld who became a great warrior and a king SYCLD - The great-grandfather of Hrothgar, Father of Beowulf HROTHGAR - The king of the Spear-Danes and a descendant of Scyld. GRENDEL - A frightful monster. GRENDEL’S MOTHER - An equally horrible monster. V. Summary A time where Scyld grew and became a mighty warrior and led the Spear Danes for many years. Hrothgar built a splendid hall wherein each night they feast and listen to the songs of glee man. One night Grendel broke into the hall killing sleeping warriors to devour them in his lair, every night the visit was repeated and fear and death came over the Heorot. It continued for 12 years , as the warriors fight Grendel to death however no weapon could harm him not until the rumor who decided to fight the monster and free the danes.Beowulf was welcomed in Heorot but in the hall when night come, the fear of Grendel fell upon the Danesand all left the hall after King Hrothgar had warned Beowulf about the frightful danger of sleeping.At midnight Frendel came bursting the door inwards.Beowulf grabbed and clutched the monssters arm in a grip of steel.The whole arm was wrenched off at the shoulder. But the mother of Grendel,an aquivalent horrible monster came and again renewed the scenes of terror.Beowulf decided the fight with the monster and followed her,she bit and clawed at himbut his thick,strong armor saved him.On a wall of the cave, Beowulf caught sight of a magic sword,snatching it,Beowulf swung it at the monster and killed her.As he cut off the monster’s head, the magic sword melted in his hands.Beowuld adventure last with the dragon but met his death amidst the enormous treasures of the dragon.He was buried in sorrow and received signal honors from his men.
VI. Lesson Learned
If you have a gift, given by God, tyr to share it and don’t use it just for yourself but also for others.Beowulf was given immense, strength, and bravery, and he did not use it just to be famous. He used it to save the Danes from frightful monsters. VII. Vocabulary SPLENDID -Magnificent; very impressive EXAMPLE: -Molly thought this was a splendid story. DEVOUR -Eat (food or prey) hungrily or quickly. EXAMPLE: -If they had, they would devour all who passed near them. LAIR -A wild animal’s resting place, especially one that is well hidden. EXAMPLE: -She whirled, but the vamp that had led her into the underground lair blocked the doorway. SORROW -A feeling of deep distress caused by loss, disappointment, or other misfortune suffered by oneself or others. EXAMPLE: SHIVER -Shake slightly and uncontrollably as a result of being cold, frightened, or excited. EXAMPLE: -The slow smile, the one that made her shiver, spread across his face. LIBERATE -Set (someone) free from a situation, especially imprisonment or slavery, in which their liberty is severely restricted. EXAMPLE: -Rebels fought to liberate the country. DESCENDANT -A person, plant, or animal that is descended from a particular ancestor. EXAMPLE: -A great-grandmother with her descendant. WRENCH -A sudden violent twist or pull.
