Elephants

An elephants is the largest of all land mammals and is found in Africa and Asia. An average male
African elephant weighs about 20,000 pounds and is ver 10 feet high. An elephant’s trunk
contains 40,000 muscles which makes it very strong and flexible. The tip of the trunk is so
sensitive that it can pluck a single blade of grass. An elephant uses its trunk to drink water. It
drinks 40 gallons of water everyday. The elephant uses its ivory tusks to dig up roots, strip off
barks and dig into soil in search of water. An elephant lives for sixty to seventy years and the
tusks grow throughout its life. However, elephants are being hunted and killed every year for
their tusks.
