Pop up Question 3: Do you agree with the idea that man has a soul that will survive a

bodily death? Explain your answer.

Answer:

The soul could and would exist independently of the body, and after the body's death.

Because the soul serves as a conduit between the physical body and the spiritual self, it

possesses traits from both. The soul can be drawn to either the spiritual or material

realms, and so serves as a "battleground" between good and evil. He reasoned that

because the soul behaved independently of the body when it engaged in pure

contemplation, he may assume that the soul could exist outside of the body.
