INDIAN NAVY UPDATES

1. ASW SWC – Anti Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts:


 Indigenously built vessel by GRSE.
 Will replace Abhay Class corvettes.
 Will be mainly used as SAU (Search and Attack Unit) in ASW Ops.
 Three vessel has be laid until now. (06 Aug 21 & 17 Jun 22)
 Crafts will have LFVDS (Low Frequency Variable Depth Sonar) & HMS
(Hull Mounter Sonar
 Advanced Light Weight Torpedo (ALWT), RBU-6000 ASW Rocket.

2. Survey Vessel Large (SVL):

 Nirdeshak Class.
 Replacement of Sandhayak Class survey ship.
 Two vessels have been laid.

3. INAS 316 Squadron

 Indian Naval Air Squadron 316 squadron


 It is second squadron for P-8i LRMPAs
 Stationed at INS Hansa, Goa.
 Two Aircrafts have been commissioned for squadron
 Also called ‘Condors’ – condor is a bird name which has largest flying land
birds with a massive wingspan.

4. Scorpene Class submarine:

 6th submarine has been launched

5. VL SRSAM

 Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile


 Flight test conducted by DRDO on 24 Jun 22
 Ship borne missile against air threats including sea skimming targets
 Claimed range is 60 km
6. ASTRA Mk I BVR Air to Air Missile

 Being developed by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).


 BVR AAM – Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile
 Likely to used by MiG-29k fighter aircrafts of IN
7. SMART Weapon
 SMART – Super Sonic Missile Assisted Torpedo
 Being Developed by DRDO – first trials were conducted in Dec 21.
 At present shore version is being experimented.

 Customization of San Giusto Class (Italy) & Kalaat Beni Abbes (Algerian
Navy))
 Being developed by Fincanteiri
 76 mm main gun (Leonardo), 16 x ASTER 30 SAM (MBDA), 04 x 30 mm
CIWS) (Leaonardo), NH-90 Helicopter, Athena Combat System, Kronos
radar, 04 x Sylena Mk-2 decoys
 Keel laid on 17 May 2022.
 550 troops, 02 x Vehicle ramps, 01 x LCM (Landing Craft Mechanized)
2. Al Zubarah-class air defense corvettes:
 Multi Mission Corvette
 Being built by Fincanteri
 Also known as Doha Class
 Three vessel have been laid
 AAM-ESD missile system (SAMs), MM40 Exocet Block 3 (SSM), RAM Mk
49 (CIWS), Leonardo command management system (CMS)
3. Musherib-Class OPVs:

 Built by Fincanteri (02 x OPVs)


 NA-30S Mk2 FCS for the Leonardo Super Rapido 76/62 mm Multi-Feeding
main calibre gun, the Leonardo-provided EO/IR suite also includes two
SASS IRSTs and a single Medusa Mk4B FCS for the two 30 mm Marlin-
WS secondary gun systems.
 MBDA VL MICA (SAMs), MM40 Exocet Block 3 (SSM)
 725 tonnes, a length and beam of respectively 63.80.

 “Incat Type”, which is dry in the middle of body and has no contact with
water and even a vessel can pass through it.

1. Avante 2200 Class Corvette:

a. Being built by Navantia, Spain


b. Total 05 x Corvette, first one (HMS Al Jubail) has been delivered.

1. Daegu-class (FFX-II) frigates:

 Multi – mission frigates.


 Being Built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME)
 An improved variant of Incheon-class (FFX-I) frigates.

INDOESIAN NAVY

1. Intends to buy Scorpene Class submarines from France (Naval


Group).

2. Indonesian Navy is going to buy NSM (Naval Strike Missile)


from Norway (Kongsberg) for its fast missile boats.

3. Indonesian Navy commissioned the trimaran-shaped Klewang


Class fast attack craft. (stealthy, wave piercing carbon trimaran
vessel) (it is with a pointed forward shape, making it easy to execute
hit and run tactics, hull is made of carbon fiber composite, the RCS is
reduced).

4. Indonesian Navy commissioned hospital ship Dr Wahidin


Sudirohusodo.

5. Arrowhead 140 frigates by Babcock. 02 x frigates will be built


in Indonesia.

6. Contract for 06 x FREMM class frigates and 02 x Maestrale


class frigates has been signed with Fincanteri.

7. AFTU (Autonomous Flight Termination Units) for the safety


of hypersonic missiles.

8. Manta Ray is name of project by US to develop unmanned


underwater vehicles for long duration, long range missions.

9. LDUUV (Large Diameter Unmanned Underwater Vehicle)

system, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
MODERN NAVAL TECHNOLOGIES

against defence against hypersonic missiles.

3. FC/ ASW (Future Cruise/ Anti Ship Weapon), UK-French


MBDA project.
